Jane Fonda warned Jennifer Lopez against publicizing Ben Affleck romance in documentary amid divorce rumor
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hollywood legend and Jennifer Lopez’s friend Jane Fonda cautioned the songstress against showing her love story with Ben Affleck on screen months before divorce speculations grew.
Fonda, 86, who formed an enduring friendship with Lopez after starring together in the 2005 film ‘Monster-in-Law’, was approached to star in Lopez’s three-part project accompanying the album ‘This Is Me…Now’.
The ‘80 For Brady’ star appears in Lopez’s Prime Video movie ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ where she plays the role of a member of the film’s “zodiac counsel.”
As she was initially approached by the ‘Jenny From the Block’ singer, Fonda shared her reservations about the public perception regarding Bennifer’s relationship.
Jane Fonda warned Jennifer Lopez about the film
In a candid conversation as shown in the ‘This Is Me…Now’ documentary, ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’, the ‘Barbarella’ actress was seen cautioning Lopez regarding the prudence of showing her real-life romance onscreen.
Speaking to Lopez, Fonda said, “First of all, I want you to know that I don't entirely know why, but I feel invested in you and Ben and I really, really want this to work," per Today.
She added, “However, this is my concern,” before continuing, “Like it feels too much like you're trying to prove something instead of just living it. Every other photograph is the two of you kissing and the two of you hugging.”
“That’s just us living our life,” Lopez replies while lightening the conversation.
The Hollywood veteran - who formed a warm friendship with Lopez, then further put forward her concerns regarding Affleck looking glum during the 2023 Grammys.
The ‘Grace and Frankie’ star shared, “I got real scared, you know, with all that s**t about the Grammys and he looks unhappy and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, what’s happening?’”
The ‘Maid in Manhattan’ star, however, eased her concerns as she explained, “Nothing! He was like, ‘I’ve become the symbol of the beleaguered man.’”
Per Today, before Fonda finally agreed to star in Lopez’s project, she had a chat with the ‘Atlas’ star’s manager, Benny Medina.
She commented on Lopez’s relationship, saying, “I believe that everyone in the entire world is pulling for this relationship and this love.”
"And the idea of how you present that is so sacrosanct, so important. It should be handled in a way that you aren’t overly flaunting it, so much so that it creates any form of criticism or resentment,” continued Fonda.
Jennifer Lopez’s manager shared concerns
Fonda is, however, not the only well-wisher of Lopez, who apparently cautioned her before sharing her relationship with the public.
The ‘Mother’ star’s manager, Medina too shared concerns regarding her zeal for the three-part ‘This Is Me…Now’ project that shows the actress’ relationship with Ben Affleck, per Daily Mail.
Medina shared, “She called me and said, 'I believe that everyone in the entire world is pulling for this love and the idea of how you present it is so sacrosanct and so important that it should be handled in a way that you aren't overly flaunting it so much that it creates any form of criticism or resentment.'”
“My biggest concern is that if critics and people sort of come at her in any way,” added the manager.
