WASHINGTON, DC: Old videos of Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance have resurfaced online, drawing attention to his controversial conservative views.

Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign reemerged one such clip from the Ohio Senator's 2021 speech at the conservative Intercollegiate Studies Institute, where he argued that childless individuals should not have the "same voice" as parents, as per Mediaite.

Recently, Vance came under fire over another video where he called the Democratic presumptive nominee a "childless cat lady" who led a "miserable" life with "no direct stake" in America. People from various fields, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and actress Jennifer Aniston, called out the Republican over the remarks.

Scrutiny over Vance's past comments intensified after former President Donald Trump announced him as his 2024 running mate at the Republican National Convention last week.

JD Vance once said parents should have more 'power' at polls than childless people

"When you go to the polls in this country, as a parent, you should have more power. You should have more of an ability to speak your voice in our democratic republic than people who don't have kids," Vance said in 2021, according to the viral video that has amassed over four million views.

"Let's face the consequences and the reality. If you don't have as much of an investment in the future of this country, maybe you shouldn't get nearly the same voice," the congressman continued, adding The Atlantic and the Washington Post, and others would criticize him over his suggestion.

"Well, doesn't this mean that non-parents don't have as much of a voice as parents? Doesn't this mean that parents get a bigger say in how our democracy functions? Yes, absolutely," Vance added.

The Washington Post addressed the remarks, with Patrick Marley commenting on Thursday, July 25, about Vance's plan to promote higher birth rates.

Marley noted that the Trump running mate, advocated for boosting the political strength of families a year before entering the Senate, allowing parents to cast millions more votes on their children's behalf.

He further explained that Vance's proposal would face legal challenges and logistical hurdles, as election officials would need to continuously track voter eligibility concerning divorces, court decisions, and child custody.

JD Vance's claim that childless people should not have 'same voice' as parents sparks online outrage

In addition to criticizing Vance for his conservative claim that childless individuals should not have the "same voice" as parents, netizens also deemed his comments "unconstitutional."

"This is unconstitutional," a user wrote.

"Didn't he take constitutional law at Yale? We all get the right to vote. Not just those who procreate. I have rights, too!" Another remarked.

"Republicans. These people have gone absolutely insane! They just arbitrarily make things up to suit their narrative or rhetoric. Wonder, if either of them could tell us where this ludicrous amendment can be found in the Constitution. Must have overlooked that one. Liz Cheney," added a user.

"This is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise and silence certain groups. Voting is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for parents! Vance's idea is a recipe for disaster and undermines the very fabric of democracy!" read another response.

"He’s a vile man," an individual opined.

"Why @JDVance? Are you trying to get Harris elected? You are talking nonsense right now. I hate to day it but it's looking like Trump made a big mistake in his VP pick. You are becoming more of a liability than am asset to him," someone else said.[sic]

"That fake hillbilly doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. But im not complaining because the bigger the hole he’s digging the harder it’s going to be to climb out," read one remark. [sic]

"He's been a sitting Senator for less than two years, and it shows...has little to zero governing experience but is 100% willing to be the fascist bootlicker Project 2025 and Trump wants," another user added.
