WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance mocked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday, October 9, by reusing one of President Donald Trump’s old jokes, calling Schumer “one of the most famous Palestinians in the world.”

Vance took aim at Schumer over both the ongoing government shutdown and the recent Middle East peace deal. Schumer has often highlighted his position as the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress.

Referring to special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, JD Vance said, “The reason we’re here is because the president actually charted a different course with a different team.”

“Obviously, the president of the United States, a New York real estate billionaire, one of the most famous New Yorkers in the world, has a lot of interaction with people who are very pro-Israel,” he added.

Vance then joked, “He also, of course, knew one of the most famous Palestinians in the world, Chuck Schumer."

Schumer later responded in a statement, saying, “Someone like JD Vance should know to couch his language more carefully.”

“Anyway, I’ll be here, ready to make a deal to save Americans’ healthcare and reopen the federal government that Republicans shut down,” Schumer added.

Donald Trump doubles down on his ‘Palestinian’ remark about Chuck Schumer

Trump first began calling Schumer a “Palestinian” during the 2024 campaign, accusing the Brooklyn Democrat of not being supportive enough of Israel. He even used the same jab for former President Joe Biden.

During their June 2024 debate, Trump said, “He’s become like a Palestinian. But they don’t like him, because he’s a very bad Palestinian. He’s a weak one.”

Trump continued his attacks in June 2024 at a Virginia rally, saying, “Schumer is a Palestinian as far as I’m concerned. He used to be Jewish. He’s not Jewish anymore. He’s a Palestinian.”



 

He repeated the same claim in March 2025 while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office.

JD Vance slams Chuck Schumer over shutdown comment

JD Vance and several Republican leaders criticized Schumer for comments suggesting that “every day gets better” for Democrats as the government shutdown continued.

The remark, made during an interview with Punchbowl News, sparked immediate backlash from the GOP and the Trump administration.



 

JD Vance said in an X post, "Better for Schumer. Worse for Americans. What a vile sentiment from an alleged leader in our country."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also condemned Schumer’s statement. 



 

She said, "While federal workers stress over missed paychecks, military families turn to food pantries, and airports around the country face delays — Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are bragging that ‘every day gets better’ for them."

"What a disgusting and revealing statement. Democrats are gleeful about inflicting pain on the American people," Leavitt added.
