Jenna Ortega slams ‘lack of any real resolution’ against ICE officers in Alex Pretti shooting
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Jenna Ortega has publicly condemned the handling of the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis on January 24.
“It’s absolutely devastating and I’m horrified. I’m really encouraged by the spirit of the American people and the people who feel the need to say something. But the lack of any real resolution or reprimanding against officers is incredibly frightening and disappointing to see,” Ortega tweeted.

DHS claims Alex Pretti posed a threat
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Pretti approached US Border Patrol officers in Minneapolis armed with a 9 mm handgun. The agency claimed officers fired in self-defense after Pretti allegedly resisted attempts to disarm him. DHS said he had two magazines and no identification, framing the incident as a potential threat to law enforcement.

Family disputes official narrative
Pretti’s parents, Michael and Susan, strongly disputed the DHS version. “We are heartbroken but also very angry. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting,” they said. They stated Pretti was holding his phone, not a weapon, and described him as a compassionate ICU nurse dedicated to his family and patients.
“Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact,” the family added.
Hollywood voices outrage over ICE actions
Other celebrities have joined Ortega in criticizing ICE. At Sundance, Natalie Portman described the government’s actions as “horrific,” while Olivia Wilde called them “the worst of the worst of humanity.” They both condemned the normalization of federal violence and highlighted the country’s ongoing struggles with law enforcement accountability.
Ortega’s comments come amid growing public scrutiny and protests following Pretti’s death, intensifying calls for transparency and action against those responsible.
