Jennifer Garner to reunite with ex Ben Affleck for new thriller amid Jennifer Lopez's marriage revelations
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Six years after their divorce, Jennifer Garner might be starring in her ex-husband Ben Affleck's next movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Garner, 51, is in negotiations to become a cast member in Netflix's next crime drama, 'Animals,' helmed by Affleck. The actress—who was married to the Oscar-winning director for 10 years—is in talks to play opposite Matt Damon in the movie.
The information was released as Affleck's current wife Jennifer Lopez has been revealing personal information about their marriage while on the press tour for her next album, documentary, and movie.
Ben Affleck produces crime thriller 'Animal' alongside Matt Damon
Although Affleck, 51, will continue to work with the camera, this will be the first joint project for the formerly married couple since 'Elektra', a superhero movie released by 20th Century Fox in 2005.
Along with Dani Bernfeld of the company, Affleck is directing and producing the film under the Artists Equity label with Damon, 53. Brad Weston and Collin Creighton are also producing through their MakeReady shingle.
A Netflix logline describes 'Animals' as "concerns a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. Surrounded by plenty of enemies, political and otherwise, the husband and wife have no choice but to get their hands dirty in order to save their son," per Collider.
Less than a month after Damon was cast in 'Animals' after the movie's Netflix acquisition, Garner's arrival suggests that casting for the movie has been heating up recently.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner shared screen time in three different films
There is ample documentation of Garner and Affleck's relationship. The couple performed in three movies together before getting married in 2005 and until 2018.
The first was 'Pearl Harbor,' a war drama released in 2001. After that, the two worked together in the 2003 superhero movie 'Daredevil,' where Garner played Elektra Natchios, who eventually became blind vigilante Affleck's love interest.
Two years later, Garner would play the same character in the previously mentioned standalone Elektra, while Affleck would make an appearance as Daredevil.
Although Garner has generally avoided action movies since then, this will not last long as she is scheduled to reprise her role as Elektra in Disney's upcoming 'Deadpool & Wolverine' for the first time in 20 years.
Netflix fans adore Garner, who has demonstrated her flexibility in comedies, romantic comedies, and thrillers. Garner has starred or co-starred in the streaming service's top blockbusters, including 'Family Switch,' 'The Adam Project,' and 'Yes Day.'
Although Garner and Affleck had initially crossed paths on the 'Pearl Harbor' set, their romance did not start until four years later. They grew close after costarring in the 2003 film 'Daredevil,' and by the summer of 2004, their friendship had taken a romantic turn.
Jennifer Lopez reveals information about her marriage with Ben Affleck
The most recent information emerged while Affleck's current wife Jennifer Lopez was revealing personal information about their marriage while on the press tour for her next movie, record, and documentary.
During her Thursday, February 15 appearance on 'The Kyle and Jackie O Show', Lopez revealed that it took her nearly 20 years to "figure herself out" before the "universe opened up" and she was able to get back together with her former partner.
"I fell in love with the love of my life [earlier in my life] and for whatever reasons... we needed to grow and do other things," she said, per Daily Mail.
Lopez continued by sharing her personal story of her relationship with Affleck and how having kids improved her.
The pop star, who has 16-year-old twins named Max and Emme with her ex-partner Marc Anthony, stated, "I was on a real journey ever since my kids were born."
Affleck's 10-year marriage to Garner ended in 2018, leaving him with two teenage children, Violet, 18, and Seraphina, also known as Fin, 15.
The 'it' couple of the early 2000s famously broke up in 2004 following an unsuccessful engagement. After getting back together in July 2021, the pair married in July 2022 in Las Vegas.
Earlier this week, the 'Hustlers' star sat down for an interview this week with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe where she opened up about how she and Affleck called off their first wedding in September 2003 but didn't break up right away.
'We didn't break up right at that moment, it happened over the series of the next few months,' Jlo explained before stating that they parted ways in January 2004.
'Because what it did was it casted doubt in me, and both of us, about what our relationship was and where it was going, I think,' she added. The Gigli stars got back together and married each other in 2022, but even nearly 20 years ago, Lopez knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Affleck
'I knew in my heart that I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life, I knew that. But it didn't feel like we were going to make it,' the Wedding Planner actress said, adding: 'And so, it scared me.'
Lopez claimed she didn't think Affleck and her, who were in their late 20s and early 30s respectively, were mature enough to work through their problems and maintain a marriage at the time.
'Even though he was in his late 20s, I was in my early 30s, it still, it wasn't ... we weren't ready to deal with, and look at each other and go, what we have is real, we need to buckle down, we need to do some work,' she explained. 'We just weren't there yet.'
