LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez finally took the plunge and filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.

According to reports, one of the main reasons the couple were dragging out their divorce could be the substantial financial stakes. TMZ claims the pair did not execute a prenuptial agreement before their 2022 wedding.

Given JLo's enormous net worth of $400 million as of 2024, compared to Affleck's $150 million, it is believed that the songstress would end up losing more money than her husband.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's lack of a prenup may cost them heavily

According to TMZ, Jennifer Lopez reportedly filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 20 - the two-year anniversary of the couple's second wedding ceremony in Savannah, Georgia.

Sources claim that the couple did not sign a prenup before saying, "I do," even though JLo has been silent about its existence.

As per court records, the date of separation was listed as April 26, 2024.

The entertainment website Koi Moi previously estimated that the now-separated couple's total net worth was $640 million, as per Daily Mail

Without a prenuptial agreement, all of Lopez and Affleck's income, gains, and possessions acquired during their marriage are deemed "community property."

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's earnings since their 2022 wedding

Both Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez maintained a steady career during the two years they were married.

According to IMDb, the actor's 2023 projects included the films 'AIR' (which he also directed), 'Hypnotic', and 'The Flash'. He recently starred in Lopez's 'This Is Me... Now', which came out earlier this year.

He has finished filming Gavin O'Connor's 'The Accountant 2', in which he reprises his role as Christian Wolff from the 2016 film.

He is also set to direct, produce, and star in a movie called 'Keeper of the Lost Cities'. Affleck is also working with his longtime friend Matt Damon on a thriller film 'Animals'.

The actor made an estimated $38 million in 2023, which put him on Forbes' 2023 list of the highest-paid actors. The movie 'AIR' alone brought about $90 million from ticket sales.

Lopez has also been working hard. She starred in 'Shotgun Wedding', 'The Mother', 'This Is Me... Now', and 'Atlas' between 2022 and 2024, per the New York Post.

She will also feature in two motion pictures that Affleck is scheduled to produce: 'Unstoppable' and 'Kiss of the Spider Woman', Lopez is also scheduled to act with Dira Zays in the movie 'The Godmother'.

During their marriage, she has also released several music videos, including 'Marry Me with Maluma', 'Rebound', 'Can't Get Enough', 'Can't Get Enough (Remix)' featuring Latto, and 'Love Jennifer Lopez More in Dolby Atmos'.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's $60 million Beverly Hills mansion

The $60.85 million house in Beverly Hills, California, that the divorcing couple bought in 2023 is one of the significant assets that they will need to settle on.

With 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, the former couple offered the property for $65 million in June before relisting it for $68 million following recent improvements.

After additional renovations, the exclusive Southern California neighborhood property that Lopez and Affleck spent two years choosing finally went up for sale in July.

The 38,000-square-foot estate may have cost more because of state tax laws. According to a TMZ report, California taxes residences sold for at least $10 million, charging 5.5 percent of the sale price.

Following his departure from the Beverly Hills residence, the actor reportedly spent $20.5 million on a mansion in Pacific Palisades, California.

Jennifer Lopez's alcoholic beverage brand Delola Spritz

Jennifer Lopez announced in April last year that she was entering the alcohol industry, having established the Delola Spritz brand.

In an April 2023 press release, the 'Jenny From The Block' singer mentioned that she started The House Of Delola LLC with the intention "to launch unique, mixology-level ready-to-enjoy cocktails designed for elegant, effortless entertaining as part of a thoughtful lifestyle."

Jennifer Lopez reportedly aims to inherit half of Ben Affleck's $150 million fortune

According to TMZ, the 'Atlas' actress "waived spousal support and is asking the judge to deny Ben such support as well."

However, Blast reported in July that Lopez was "gearing up for a messy divorce" and that her goal was to inherit half of Affleck's $150 million fortune.

Insiders also told Radar Online in July that Lopez had covered a lot of the couple's bills during their two years of marriage, adding that the actor had "grumbled about spending money."

Per some sources, JLo believed that Affleck had "mooched" off of her fortune and was now "demanding a full inventory of what she spent versus what he spent and wants all the money back she 'invested'" after the split.

Given that Lopez and Affleck have previously separated, it is surprising that they do not have a prenuptial agreement. Bennifer's end marks the singer's fourth marriage that's collapsed.
