Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck weren't a 'good match' as 'final straw' that led to divorce revealed
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: According to insiders, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were never intended to be together, and their incompatibility was the main cause of their split.
A source revealed to Us Weekly on Friday, August 23, that the pair did attempt to "make it work" by attending therapy unfortunately, but they discovered that their relationship issues could not be resolved.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck split because 'they are two different people'
Before calling it quits in 2004, Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, had a brief engagement after meeting on the 'Gigli' set in 2002. They reconnected in 2021 — after divorcing their prior relationships — and got married in July 2022.
The enthusiasm that surrounded their reunion initially faded as soon as they got back together, and Lopez eventually filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20.
The 'Air' star would much rather be in the background, whereas Lopez loves to be the center of attention. Their marriage fell apart primarily due to incompatibility.
Though Affleck and Lopez tried to "make it work" by attending therapy, a source revealed to Us Weekly, "It was more and more apparent they weren’t a good match."
"It boiled down to [the fact that] they are two different people," the source added.
The informant claimed that the divorcing couple decided to part ways after realizing they were not compatible with one another.
The insider continued, "She came to the realization things weren’t going to change and they were incompatible. Spending time apart — it became obvious it wouldn’t work."
The 'Jenny from the Block' hitmaker filed for divorce without an attorney on August 20, the date of the couple's second wedding anniversary. However, the document listed April 26 as the date of separation.
The 'final straw' of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's split revealed
Affleck and Lopez's marital problems have been rumored for months. Their relationship eventually started to deteriorate before they got divorced, largely because of their fundamental differences.
A second source revealed, "Jennifer loves luxury, mansions, jets, yachts, red carpets and all things glamorous. Ben has never liked those things. Unless he is promoting work, he doesn’t like the spotlight."
The estranged couple's extravagant purchase of a $68 million Beverly Hills mansion drove a stake deeper into their relationship and brought them closer to the breaking point, which didn't help.
"If there was one final straw, it was Jennifer convincing Ben to buy that massive mansion. It wasn’t what he wanted or who he is," the second source noted.
The aforementioned $68 million Beverly Hills, California, house was listed for sale in July, shortly before their official separation.
The $20 million five-bedroom condo that Affleck bought in late July was far more affordable than the $68 million Beverly Hills property that was listed earlier this summer.
Now that their marriage is over, the singer and the Oscar-winning actor have begun placing the blame for the breakdown of their marriage on one another.
Affleck reportedly showed "compassion" by granting the 'Hustlers' star permission to file for divorce, sparing her the humiliation of yet another failed relationship.
"Ben knew Jennifer was going to file for divorce. It was not a shocker to him at all. In fact, he let her have this," a source close to Affleck revealed to Daily Mail.
The estranged couple have broken up twice now. After initially meeting on the set of their film 'Gigli,' they began dating and became engaged in 2002. However, they first broke up in 2004.
