Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marital woes began as early as their Lake Como honeymoon, claims source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marital troubles may have begun much earlier than previously thought—reportedly starting as soon as their honeymoon.
After months of speculation, JLo filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding ceremony.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck barely spoke to each other after their honeymoon
Sources claim that Ben Affleck was distressed by the media frenzy surrounding their high-profile union during the summer of 2022. The pair initially sparked romance in 2002 after meeting on the sets of 'Gigli', but parted ways in 2004.
Rumors of a rekindled romance began in April 2021, with Lopez announcing their engagement in April 2022. The couple eloped and tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022.
According to insiders, the cracks in the couple's marriage began soon after their August 2022 honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy, which followed their larger wedding ceremony in Affleck's Georgia estate.
"He was unhappy with paparazzi following them. She is an international superstar, and he acted like it came as a surprise that they would be followed around," said a source, as per Page Six.
They added, "When they weren’t in front of the cameras, they would barely speak to each other during what was supposed to be the happiest time of their lives."
"He sold her on him being a changed man, and that lasted a very short time," revealed another source, adding that Ben, who has struggled publicly with sobriety, began yearning for more privacy and found JLo's level of fame overwhelming.
"When they started seeing each other again, he was just getting sober … He was in a vulnerable state, and whatever their chemistry played into that … He was in this frenzied, excitable state," shared the tipster, before saying, "He doesn’t want [the entourage] and all the drama that comes with that in his home."
Affleck’s mood was notably somber as he arrived at his new $20 million mansion in LA, just hours after JLo filed for divorce.
Affleck recently closed escrow on a $20.5 million estate in Pacific Palisades, deemed as a "bachelor pad," complete with five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a host of luxurious amenities, as per Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, the couple’s Beverly Hills home, listed for $68 million last month—after being purchased for $60 million—has yet to find a buyer.
Ben Affleck has struggled with sobriety for long
Back in 2018, Ben Affleck sought help once again for his ongoing struggle with sobriety, according to ET.
On the afternoon of August 22, 2018, Garner drove her estranged husband to a rehab facility in the LA area, as confirmed by the outlet.
The 'Gone Girl' actor recognized his need for support, and Garner was there to help him through this difficult time.
Affleck had previously completed treatment for alcoholism in March 2017, aiming to be "the best father I can be."
His battle with addiction, however, dates back much further, rooted in his childhood experiences of watching his father, Timothy Byers Affleck, struggle with alcoholism.
The BAFTA winner has been candid about his journey with alcoholism, from his family's cycle of addiction to his 2001 rehab stint.
Reflecting on his parents' divorce during a 2012 interview with Barbara Walters, Ben Affleck admitted, "To be honest with you, the marriage was so bad, and I remember feeling relief."
He spoke candidly about his father’s struggle with alcoholism, saying, "[My father] was an alcoholic... I did know that as a child. He drank a lot. My father was a -- what did they call him -- a real alcoholic. He, you know, drank all day, drank every day, and to his credit, he got sober ultimately."
