LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A week after Jennifer Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Affleck, 52, last week, sad details about their marriage are coming out.

Recently, a source close to the ‘Gigli’ couple revealed to People that Affleck often got “frustrated” and spiraled into a “dark place” from where the ‘Atlas’ actress pulled him back to normalcy.

Jennifer Lopez was almost a mother to Ben Affleck

The source close to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck opened up to the outlet that the ‘Argo’ actor was often “moody and dark at times” and that his spouse would often spend hours cheering him up.

The source shared, “Jennifer did spend a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed,” suggesting that Lopez often had to shower him with maternal affection.

“The way she cared for him was almost childlike,” added the source while revealing that the songstress was often reminded by her friends that uplifting his mood is not her responsibility always.

“Friends constantly reminded her that she's not responsible for his feelings,” shared the source before adding pointedly, “He's very moody and dark at times.”

While Affleck has been called “moody” by their acquaintances, the insiders shared that Lopez was more appreciative of life.

“Jennifer appreciates life in another way. She's very grateful for everything.”

Another source, who claimed to be close to the ‘Gone Girl’ actor’s other ex and mother to his three children, Jennifer Garner, told the outlet that Affleck indeed “doesn't have good coping skills".

This source also said, “He gets easily frustrated and tends to be moody," per Daily Mail.

“When he's relaxed and in a good mood, it's amazing to be around him,” the source added before noting, “But more often, he's upset or frustrated.”

They continued, “Many times, it's just something small that he gets stuck on,” before adding, “He really doesn't understand how his bad mood affects people around him. It's just not fun being around that kind of negativity.”

Nevertheless, they added that Affleck is coping with the divorce well and is immersing himself in work.

The tipster noted, “He thrives when he has work projects. He's been great when it comes to the kids too. He's doing exactly what he wants. He seems very happy.”

Indeed, his happiness was visible when in some photos released by Page Six recently, the Oscar winner was seen grinning ear to ear when receiving a food delivery parcel in his rented Brentwood property.

The source said, "It's been incredibly hard for her to accept that Ben chose to move on with his life, leaving her behind," before adding, "Jennifer didn't want a divorce. She wanted to figure things out because they love each other. Waiting around for things to improve was almost torture for her."

Saying that the 'Maid in Manhattan' star "feels relieved" by the proceeding, the source added, “Her family and friends agree that it was the right decision."

"Jennifer is strong and always comes out on top. Lopez is surrounded by a lot of love and support as she navigates this challenging time," added the insider.
