Ben Affleck's appearance in 'This Is Me...Now'

Affleck's cameo in 'This Is Me...Now: A Love Story' is brief and he appears in disguise as a newscaster who is named Rex Stone.

Speaking to People, the film's director, Dave Meyers, said the Oscar-winning actor's brief appearance was a creative decision he and the singer chose to shed light on Lopez's personal growth had gained during her time away from Affleck.

"We did hem and haw on the opening scene, but we really did not want to end it with, the whole journey of love was just to get back to Ben," said Meyers.

Reflecting on which element the viewers would relate with the film, Meyers said, "That was purposeful, because everything Jen was telling me was about her own personal maturity and what she’s gone through and learned about herself."

"That’s the thing that people will mostly relate to," he added.

What is 'This Is Me...Now: A Love Story' about?

The 'This Is Me...Now: A Love Story' film features a fictionalized version of the 54-year-old singer's life in various stages over the past 20 years.

The film navigates through the intricacies of Lopez's three failed marriages, phases of self-doubt, and toxic relationships, all interwoven with tracks from her album.

Affleck, whose face is never shown in the film, appears as a newscaster whose broadcasts are occasionally played throughout the film, representing his omnipresent force in Lopez's narrative.

"One of the early thoughts that I was playing with [with] Jen was that we had Ben playing lots of characters, but always in disguise, so it was like he was always ever-present," said Meyers.

"What I felt when I heard that there was a book of 20 years of their correspondence, I’m like, God, what an amazing sort of heirloom to know that exists. And so to me, in the film, that was Ben being ever-present in her life," he added.

"And so budget got cut and one thing led to another and it became just one character. And we spread him out throughout the film as this sort of ever-present energy," he added, according to People.
