"Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted."
However, Simpsonās path to sobriety wasnāt easy.
She described her decision as an opportunity to confront her pain directly, explaining, āI wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forwardānever looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.ā

Due to her drinking, she "zoned out" and was unable to dress her children for the holiday. "I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape," Simpson wrote, admitting that she didnāt even know who had helped her kids into their costumes that night.
The next day, she confided in a close group of friends, telling them, āI need to stop. Something's got to stop. And if it's alcohol that's doing this and making things worse, then I quit.ā
Simpsonās decision to quit drinking marked the beginning of what she described as a ālong, hard emotional journey.ā Yet, in her words, āthereās just no better gift.ā
In March of that same year, she spoke further on 'The Tamron Hall Show,' where she described the mental shift she experienced after giving up alcohol.
āI have not thought about alcohol,ā she said, addressing what she described as a āchallenging yearā and how she maintained her sobriety through it. āItās weird because alcohol was an easy thing for me to give up,ā Simpson told Hall.
āIt was holding onto how I romanticized the pain I liked to hold on to.ā
