Jessica Simpson's post featured a serene black-and-white photo of her gazing out of a plane window, symbolizing reflection and hope.

Her openness about her journey has been a source of inspiration for many, particularly as she continues to share her experiences with addiction and personal growth.

Her decision to quit drinking came in 2017, and since then, Simpson has commemorated each year as a reminder of her commitment to a healthier life.

In 2021, she reflected on her 4 years-sober journey by sharing a 2017 photo of herself on Instagram, accompanied by a raw, powerful caption.

ā€œI knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity,ā€ she wrote.

"Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted."

However, Simpsonā€™s path to sobriety wasnā€™t easy.

She described her decision as an opportunity to confront her pain directly, explaining, ā€œI wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forwardā€”never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.ā€

Jessica Simpson reflects on hitting 'rock bottom' in her memoir

In a 2020 interview with People, Simpson shared insights from her memoir, 'Open Book', revealing the depth of her struggles with alcohol and the pain that fueled them.

Reflecting on her journey, Simpson shared, "I didn't realize all the stuff I had to say until I was actually connected to it through music and writing." She added that when she finally began to face her experiences, she understood that she had hit ā€œrock bottom.ā€

For Simpson, that low point was Halloween 2017 - a day she describes in her memoir as one of disconnection and shame.

Due to her drinking, she "zoned out" and was unable to dress her children for the holiday. "I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape," Simpson wrote, admitting that she didnā€™t even know who had helped her kids into their costumes that night.

The next day, she confided in a close group of friends, telling them, ā€œI need to stop. Something's got to stop. And if it's alcohol that's doing this and making things worse, then I quit.ā€

Simpsonā€™s decision to quit drinking marked the beginning of what she described as a ā€œlong, hard emotional journey.ā€ Yet, in her words, ā€œthereā€™s just no better gift.ā€

In March of that same year, she spoke further on 'The Tamron Hall Show,' where she described the mental shift she experienced after giving up alcohol.

ā€œI have not thought about alcohol,ā€ she said, addressing what she described as a ā€œchallenging yearā€ and how she maintained her sobriety through it. ā€œItā€™s weird because alcohol was an easy thing for me to give up,ā€ Simpson told Hall.

ā€œIt was holding onto how I romanticized the pain I liked to hold on to.ā€

Jessica Simpson hasn't 'touched alcohol since October 2017'

In August of this year, Simpson addressed concerns about her sobriety after a user commented "STOP DRINKING!" on a post celebrating her son Aceā€™s birthday.

She responded gracefully, stating, "I havenā€™t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017, and it has been the best decision Iā€™ve made for myself and for my family. Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way."

Simpsonā€™s journey will soon reach a wider audience. In September, she announced a partnership with media company Gunpowder & Sky to produce a documentary about her life.

ā€œI am very humbled to team up with Gunpowder & Sky and Van Toffler, who has been a longtime collaborator and supporter of mine, to make a documentary series that is entirely real, raw and more personal than anything I have done before,ā€ she shared in a press release.

While the release date is yet to be announced, fans are already anticipating an honest, intimate look into Simpsonā€™s life.
