LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After Jonathan Majors was fired from future Marvel projects following his assault conviction, fans immediately began speculating about recasting his role as time-traveling supervillain Kang the Conqueror.

However, one name they can seemingly cross off their speculative casting lists is John Boyega, who has explicitly shut down a plea from fans asking him to take over as Kang, as per US Weekly.

John Boyega says no thanks to replacing ousted Kang star Jonathan Majors

Last month, Boyega had posted photos on social media with Anthony Mackie, known for playing Marvel's Falcon. This prompted a fan to reply, “Tell anthony mackie to connect you w whoever in charge of recasting kang.” Rather than entertain the idea of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Boyega responded with a Shrek gif shaking his head no.

The British actor, known for his leading role as Finn in the 'Star Wars' sequel trilogy, has been frank about feeling sidelined in those films. He seems intent on avoiding a repeat experience by locking himself into another major Disney-owned franchise.

As he told GQ Men's Health in August of 2022 when asked about Marvel rumors, “I want to do nuanced things. I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas."

John Boyega's troubled past with Disney

Boyega expanded on his issues with Disney while speaking on Sirius XM last year. "What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side," he stated, referring to his 'Star Wars' experience. “It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”

After Moses Ingram, who is Black, received racist backlash last year for her 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' role, Disney leadership proactively released statements condemning the attacks. Boyega indicated this supportive handling of Ingram's harassment made him “feel protected” in a way he didn't during the 'Star Wars' backlash.

However, he still seems unwilling to work with Marvel Studios or put himself back in Disney's hands. And based on his cheeky Kang dismissal, he won't be swayed by fans hoping to see him continue Majors' planned arc as the next big overarching MCU villain.

Internet responds to John Boyega's resolute statements

Following Boyega’s resolute statements, social media platforms were ablaze with reactions. One X user succinctly stated, “He knows how Disney rolls.” Another user humorously remarked, "Lol he's done with Disney."

A third user chimed in with admiration, "John Boyega would have been a great Kang imo. I know he doesn't want the role though." Conversely, another individual speculated, "Lol he ain't keen on being locked into that Disney contact I'd imagine."

Expressing disappointment, a fifth user lamented, "He would be perfect too!!! Sucks he doesn’t wanna do it lol."

With Boyega declining to step in and Marvel losing the actor expected to be the next Thanos-level cross-movie presence, uncertainty hangs over upcoming projects. 2025's 'Avengers: Kang Dynasty' seems difficult to envision without Kang at the center. This likely requires not just recasting but major storyline reworks.
