John Cena admits filming intimate scenes is ‘embarrassing’ but explains why 2024 Oscars gig was worse
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Cena opened up about filming intimate scenes during an interview on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast.
The actor admitted it was the “the worst” feeling when he had to show it all in front of the camera, as reported by Deadline.
John Cena decribes how difficult it is to film intimate scenes
“Right now, you guys at home think it’s just us. No, there’s a whole f**king world back here," said John Cena, referring to the podcast's off-camera crew.
"This is a great production, nonetheless. But dude, man, catering was right there, and the sound tent was right there,” he added.
Later, Cena went on to mention a love scene he had with Amy Schumer for the 2015 movie ‘Train Wreck’.
He shared, as per HuffPost, “Amy [Schumer] is an angel, she made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like, ‘Yeah, it’s a sex scene. We want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had? We’re probably not going to use them, we’re just going to do this stunt sex scene.”
The ‘Ricky Stanicky’ star explained, “There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing.”
“So it’s real embarrassing, and on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene, where you’re like, making fun of yourself? They literally [said] ‘Try to have the most awkward sex you possibly can.’ I don’t want to say it sucks, but it’s different than you all think it was,” he recalled.
John Cena gets candid about his 2024 Oscars stunt
But more difficult than doing an initimate scene for 47-year-old John Cena was appearing naked onstage at the Oscars earlier this year. Cena stunned viewers at the 2024 Academy Awards ceremony by presenting the prize for Best Costume Design while entirely naked.
When host Sharpe asked Cena which was worse, his Oscars stunt or intimate scenes, the WWE legend promptly said, "The Oscars."
“I got all the people behind the camera, but then I walk out in front of a room of my peers, many of which I’ve never met because I haven’t worked my way up to meet [them].
“I have the most decorated performers, producers, directors in one room and I’m gonna go out there with my b***s in the wind, with an index card covering my stuff like, ‘Hey guys, is this funny? Are we good?’”
“I expected full d**k and n**s, but it’s Disney, so they put tape on my buttcrack and stuff. That was even more embarrassing. Going out there with a taped butthole? It’s tough,” Cena added.
