LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Cena recently disclosed his explanation behind not becoming a father.

The WWE legend and actor appeared on an episode of the ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast on Wednesday, August 21, where he told the host Shannon Sharpe, "I don’t want them. I have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that it takes," as per Us Magazine.

John Cena says he's not 'ready' to have children

John Cena further elaborated, "And my biggest fear is, as someone who’s driven – many times stubborn, and selfish – I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don’t think I’m personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is."

"And I still have a lot to do. And I still want to do a lot. I have a wonderful partner I do it with. We’ve had open conversations about this. We share the same values," added the 'Ricky Stanicky' actor.

He also mentioned the judgment that comes with the child-free decision, noting, "[It’s] human nature. We’re all judgmental. I’d like to believe that I operate under the construct that everyone’s okay living their life. My opinions only hit that gray area during emotionally difficult times. And I’m very happy with where I stand."

"I have a lot of joy and fulfillment in my life. And that’s pretty much where I stand on it," asserted the 47-year-old.

John Cena and Nikki Garcia broke up due to their differing stances on having children

John Cena is currently married to Shay Shariatzadeh, with whom he tied the knot in 2020. However, he was earlier romantically involved with fellow WWE star Nikki Garcia from 2012 to 2018.

Cena and Garcia even got engaged in 2017 after proposed to her publicly at WrestleMania 33. But, they ended up calling off their wedding in April 2018.

In 2020, Garcia opened up about their breakup on Maria Menounos' 'Better Together' show. She said, "Overall, we did have such an incredible relationship, it was just two people that wanted two different lives. We were trying so hard to make it one."

"Even in the end when he was willing to give me kids, I could just tell, it’s not what we wanted," noted the retired professional wrestler.

Eventually, Garcia got married to Russian dancer Artem Chigvintsev in 2022 and together they became parents to a son.

John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh said "I do" in a private, intimate ceremony in October 2020 in Tampa, Florida. They once again tied the knot in Vancouver, Canada, 21 months after their initial ceremony.

At the time, a source shared, "John and Shay didn’t have a proper ceremony the first time out, it was a deliberately private affair because they wanted to do it with the minimum of attention of fuss."

They added, "This time was different though, they booked out a beautiful place and made it a very special occasion … They’re just so in love and grateful to have found each other."

The location was extra special as Cena met Shariatzadeh in her native Canada on the set of his 2019 comedy 'Playing with Fire', which was filmed in Vancouver.
