John Oliver mocks Trump’s remodeled Lincoln bathroom photos
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Comedian John Oliver aimed at President Donald Trump after he posted the photos of his newly revamped “Lincoln Bathroom” at the White House. Trump shared the refurbished images on social media, boasting about the development. Oliver, on his show, responded by mocking the President for the renovation while the government was facing a shutdown crisis.
John Oliver slams Trump's bathroom renovation
On his show ‘Last Week Tonight’, which was aired on Sunday, November 2, host John Oliver criticised Trump, noting, “That is pretty tone deaf. And you know what? I will say to Trump what I said while watching David Harbour’s Architectural Digest video: ‘You are vastly overestimating how much I care about where you take a shit.'”
“It is odd to be posting bathroom remodel photos when so many are legitimately concerned about getting the government open again,” he added.
Other than the bathroom, Trump is also overseeing a demolition of the East Wing of the White House so that he can construct a $250 million ballroom.
After photos of the construction surfaced, Oliver previously weighed in on the project, saying, “Those images are distressing, especially when you know it’s all to build a giant ballroom in a style best described as ‘Med Spa Versailles.’”
He added that “The demolition of the White House [is] a metaphor that, if anything, is too on the nose” for Trump’s presidency.

On Friday, Trump shared a couple of dozen photos of a renovated bathroom that is connected to the Lincoln Bedroom.
“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” he wrote on Truth Social. “It was renovated in the 1940s in an Art Deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era."
"I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!” he added.
Criticisms of developments and earlier renovations
The new developments in the White House were met with criticism from various Democratic politicians and preservationists. However, this is not the first time White House has seen such renovations.
Theodore Roosevelt replaced greenhouses with the West Wing. William Howard Taft built the first Oval Office in 1909. Richard Nixon turned a swimming pool into the press briefing room in 1970.
The modern East Wing was added during World War II to conceal an underground bunker. Harry Truman rebuilt the interior and added the Truman Balcony, which was initially criticized, now iconic.
