PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Comedian Jon Stewart slammed GOP nominee Donald Trump for claiming he had "nothing to do" with the January 6, 2021 insurrection, during the Tuesday, September 10 episode of 'The Daily Show.'

Stewart's show aired live on Comedy Central shortly after the first presidential debate ended between Trump and his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, hosted by ABC News at The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Stewart exclaimed that Vice President Harris "crushed it" at the debate, taking the top spot on the Democratic ticket over from incumbent Joe Biden. While reacting to various moments throughout the evening's main event, he also took time to call out his old nemesis, former vice president Dick Cheney, who recently endorsed Harris in the November election.

"F**k off," he told Cheney. "Seriously, you came this close to destroying the entire world."

Jon Stewart's reaction to Donald Trump's claims on January 6

Former president Trump has consistently blamed Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi for the Capitol Hill riot by MAGA supporters on January 6, 2021. He reiterated his claim on the debate stage Tuesday evening, saying that he “had nothing to do with that, other than they asked me to make a speech.”

Stewart furiously shot back at Trump, stating, "You spent two months riling up your base, (saying) that our country had literally been stolen from them through fraudulent means, that you could never even get a whiff of in a court of law, and let yourself just abuse them. You pressed on. You abused their trust.”

“You showed up for a speech?” he asked incredulously, "You f*****g tweeted, join me on January 6, it will be wild!”

"One thing will always be true, and it is the quality of the former president I respect the least: Whenever he is cornered and forced to face even the smallest of consequences for his own mendacity and scheming, he reverts to the greatest refuge of scoundrels," continued Stewart, quipping, "As Shaggy would say, it wasn’t me!”

Jon Stewart's praise for Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris' performance at the presidential debate was highly praised by Jon Stewart. What stood out for the Comedy Central host was how she addressed the issue of abortion and Roe v Wade, the topic that marked Joe Biden's undoing in the previous debate.

When Trump falsely claimed “everybody” including Democrats wanted Roe v Wade to be overturned, Harris called him out, stating that the move resulted in women bleeding out in parking lots as a result of miscarriages after being denied proper care.

“Holy shit, she crushed it,” exclaimed Stewart, later joking, "This is like one of those Groundhog Day movies, where you get to go back and fix the bad way that something happened earlier to the good way and then you learn Italian and the piano and then you get sad and then despondent and then you learn how to love yourself."
