"The machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire, and although he managed to get out, it was not before sustaining severe burns on his body in the process," they added. "He was able to get to one of his workers on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition."

Bobby Burton, a reporter for On Texas Football, posted updates on X (formerly Twitter), citing Shipley's father, Bob Shipley, "Longhorn fans, please lift up Jordan Shipley and his family."

"Jordan is currently in surgery after being involved in an accident on his ranch earlier today. He received third-degree burns on over 20 per cent of his body. Jordan's dad, Bob, asks for everyone's prayers. He is currently in stable but serious condition," Burton shared.

Fans and social media users have also shared messages of support, sending prayers and well wishes for the former Longhorns star as he recovers from his injuries.

Texas Longhorns star Jordan Shipley’s career highlight

Jordan Shipley was one of the most successful wide receivers in University of Texas history, playing for the Longhorns from 2006 to 2009. In the 2010 NFL Draft, he was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round.

During his years at Texas, Shipley became one of the school’s top receivers and set records for career catches. He was a favorite target of quarterback Colt McCoy and helped the Longhorns reach the 2009 BCS National Championship game.

Shipley later spent three seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals before injuries ended his career.

Football is a family tradition for the Shipleys, as his younger brother Jaxon Shipley also played wide receiver for Texas from 2010 to 2013. Away from the field, Jordan is married to musician Sunny Shipley, and they have children together.
