KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Jordan Willis, a prominent HIV scientist, finds himself at the center of a perplexing case after three of his friends were discovered dead in his Kansas City backyard.
On January 9, the bodies of David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were discovered "frozen to death" in the backyard of Willis' residence following a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Clayton McGeeney's fiancee found their bodies in the backyard
Newly obtained video footage reveals the initial moments of the investigation, where Willis was handcuffed and questioned by police on his front stoop.
Ashton Brady, a neighbor who recorded the video, recounted how McGeeney's fiancee discovered the bodies and promptly called the authorities.
"The police searched the house, went to the backyards, everything, and I had no idea what had happened," said Brady. "The next morning I saw the news. I just was kind of in disbelief I watched that happen," he said as per Daily Mail.
The three mysterious deaths not classified as homicide
The subsequent events unfolded with Willis in his underwear, holding a wine glass, and eventually being uncuffed and taken into police custody. The medical examiner has yet to disclose the cause of death, with toxicology reports expected to take several more weeks.
Despite the grim discovery, the police have emphasized that the case is not being treated as a homicide, and Willis has not faced any charges.
Who is Jordan Willis?
Willis, 38, is an accomplished HIV researcher and protein scientist known for his contributions to COVID and HIV research. Despite his professional accolades, Willis has come under scrutiny as the families of the deceased demand answers about the circumstances surrounding their loved ones' deaths.
The victims, who failed to return home or contact their families after the Chiefs game, left their families in distress for two days. Willis allegedly did not respond to calls, messages, or visits from concerned family members during this time.
Jordan Willis insists on lack of knowledge regarding friends' deaths
The grieving families are pressing for transparency, demanding investigators reveal how their loved ones met their untimely demise. In response to the allegations, Willis, through his attorney John Picerno, claims he was asleep for a significant portion of the time between his friends' leaving and the arrival of the police.
Picerno asserts that Willis did not see the messages and was unaware of the commotion outside due to sleeping with headphones and a fan on. He maintains that he is unaware of how the men died and denies suggesting they froze to death.
