SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: T.O.P, a member of the iconic K-pop group BigBang and a popular actor, is facing a wave of backlash following his recent appearance in the global Netflix sensation 'Squid Game 2'.

Fans and critics alike have expressed their disappointment with his acting performance, with many labeling it as "freakin annoying" and urging the star to issue an apology.

T.O.P's controversial role in 'Squid Game 2' draws heavy criticism

The much-anticipated second season of 'Squid Game', Netflix's record-breaking survival drama, captivated viewers around the world when it was released on December 26.

However, T.O.P's performance in a key role has drawn significant attention for all the wrong reasons.

In the series, T.O.P, whose birth name is Choi Seung Hyun, plays Thanos, or Player 230, a hot-headed rapper among a group of financially struggling contestants competing for a life-altering cash prize in the harsh games.

The casting choice drew criticism even before the show premiered, with many doubting T.O.P's ability to give a captivating performance.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk defended T.O.P, insisting that the rapper was "essential for this role" and urged viewers to hold off on judgment until they had watched the series.

However, the response was mostly negative, with critics labeling T.O.P as the "worst casting choice" and describing his performance as "unbearable".

Some media outlets have even called for an apology from him to the global audience for his portrayal, Dimsumdaily reported.

T.O.P faced significant backlash on social media for his acting performance in 'Squid Game 2', with many viewers criticizing his portrayal and labeling it as unconvincing and flat.

A user wrote, "And I am sorry but T.O.P is super freakin annoying. Zero acting skills, zero...Z E R O I hope his character get killed soon."



 

Another added, "This dude cringed me out so bad."



 

The third commentator remarked, "TOP is such a bad actor. He can't even walk convincingly. On the same tier as Nash in legend of Chun li."



 

"T.O.P should stick to singing. he's basically the worst actor in there. #SquidGame2," wrote a critic.



 

A person said, "He was the dumbest character on the show in my opinion."



 

Other chimed in, "Squid Game 2 was absolutely pathetic zero answers no real ending what the f**k."



 

An X user wrote, "Squid Game Season 2 is terrible. It’s more of the same but much worse. There’s barely any games, it’s so unnecessarily stretched out, the side characters and subplots s**k, and the ending is atrocious."
