Kamala Harris accused of putting on ‘fake’ accent at Georgia rally to woo Southerners
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA: Vice President Kamala Harris was spotted using a bizarre fake accent while addressing supporters at her campaign rally in Savannah, Georgia, on Thursday, August 29.
Internet personality Collin Rugg brought up the Democratic presidential nominee's change of accent in a video montage he shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The clip contained her speech from three different events where she shifted from her normal speaking to something resembling an urban and southern accent.
In her latest speech at Savannah, Harris said, "And I will tell you. When we get this done together, my friend, and when I am president, I will take on the bad actors." However, her accent was entirely different, without an emphasis on the "r's" and elongating the vowel sounds.

Kamala Harris' reputation for using 'fake' Southern accent
The second speech in the clip was from Kamala Harris' address at a campaign event in Detroit, Michigan, on August 7.
According to the White House transcription from the event, the vice president was slamming former president Donald Trump regarding his New York hush-money case in which he was found guilty of 34 felony counts.
This prompted a "Lock him up" chant from the crowd. In response, Harris said in a fake accent, "Hold on, hold on, hold on. You know what? Here — hold on. Here's the thing. The courts are going to handle that. We're going to beat them in November."

The third instance where she pandered to the crowd using an artificial accent was in late July while addressing a rally in Atlanta, Georgia.
"You all helped us win in 2020 and we gonna do it again in 2024," the Democratic nominee said.

Harris' sudden shift to a fake Southern accent caught the attention of conservatives, including OutKick founder Clay Travis. Sharing a clip from the VP's Atlanta rally, he wrote on X, "Kamala Harris went to speak in Atlanta and now has a southern accent... Why do people do this? It's just so transparently fake."

The possibility of Harris acquiring a Southern accent could be nil when delved into her early life. Harris was born in California to an Indian mother and a Jamaican American father. She graduated from high school in Canada before returning to the US for college at the historically black Howard University in Washington, DC.
Furthermore, her career as an attorney general and a US Senator was entirely based out of California.
Internet slams Kamala Harris for using fake accents at her rallies
Kamala Harris' use of fake accents at her rallies, especially in the southern states, drew backlash on social media. Netizens noted that pandering to people with fake Southern accents was disrespectful.
"Cringe! It is so incredibly condescending. It is like speaking to a bunch of Irish people - saying - a top of the morning to ya - swinging a beer, doing a jig with a green hat on," a user said.
"I’m from the south and nothing irritates us more than people using fake southern accents. We hate it, it’s insulting and disrespectful. We hate them for doing it," another added.

"This is so insulting to southerners. Why do Democrat politicians think pandering like this works?" asked a third user.
"My gosh, what a clown show. No authenticity in her at all," read a fourth response.
"Sad individual using the dialect of the audience to identify with them. She’s a joke. Why do ppl not see through this? She’s playing them!" an individual wrote.

@VP- talking down to your audience is never a good thing. Trying to mimic what you think your audience sounds like is even worse," someone else opined.
"It's so incredibly disrespectful to do this to your audience. Pathetic," read another remark.
"This pandering is horribly insulting. Be real and speak to people in a real way; stop insulting their intelligence..", a user chimed in.
