Throughout the debate, Kamala Harris used her time strategically, not only when she spoke but also during moments when Donald Trump had the floor.

She fixed her gaze on him, with her facial expressions conveying much more than words. From raised eyebrows to clear moments of disapproval, Harris ensured her thoughts were clear to the audience, even when she remained silent.

Kamala Harris peppered her answers with remarks designed to provoke Donald Trump

Kamala Harris entered the debate well-prepared, and her strategy was evident from the beginning. Throughout the night, she peppered her answers with remarks designed to provoke and unsettle Donald Trump, according to CNN.

By highlighting that world leaders had laughed at him and military leaders had labeled him a "disgrace," Harris appeared focused on unsettling Trump. She didn’t hesitate to call him "weak" and "wrong," delivering her points with sharp precision.

One of her most notable lines of the night was a reference to Trump’s electoral defeat in 2020, reminding him that "81 million voters" had fired him when they elected Joe Biden.

As the debate progressed, Trump grew visibly more agitated. He repeatedly interrupted both Harris and the moderators, insisting that several falsehoods were true.

Trump again pushed his claim of widespread election fraud in 2020, a conspiracy theory that has been debunked by multiple courts and election officials.

His other false claims, however, raised even more eyebrows. Trump reiterated a bizarre conspiracy about immigrants eating pets and made a false accusation that Democrats support post-birth abortions—a provocative claim with no legal basis and unsupported by any law.

Republican presidential nominee, former U.S. President Donald Trump, debates Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, for the first time during the presidential election campaign at The National Constitution Center on September 10, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As Trump painted a grim picture of the state of the country, he echoed his inauguration speech in 2017, in which he spoke of "American carnage."

He once again declared, "We have a nation that is dying," his rhetoric aiming to stoke fear about the direction the US was heading under the current administration.
