WASHINGTON, DC: Montel Williams, the former talk show host and former partner of Vice President Kamala Harris, recently took to social media to criticize the actions of the Trump campaign.

The incident started when Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung shared an old photo of Williams with the caption, "Montel Williams and his couch," providing no additional context, as reported by Daily Mail.

This unusual post followed the Associated Press retracting a fact-check on a false claim about Trump running mate JD Vance's book, which was rumored to contain a passage about having sex with a couch—a claim that was ultimately proven baseless.

Williams responded to Cheung's post with a tweet, stating, "A very weird tweet from an even weirder guy. Good morning y’all!"

The tweet highlighted his confusion and disdain for the use of the old photo, which seemed to have no connection to the Vance controversy. Williams' criticism didn't end there; he continued to express his disapproval of the Trump campaign's tactics, which he described as "weird."

"It's really weird that the spokesman for a major presidential candidate would go to my social media to grab a copyrighted photo of me sitting on a couch, projecting calmness, love for life, and passion for respecting the man I am today," Williams added.

The former talk show host has been notably active on social media since Harris emerged as the presumptive Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden's announcement that he would not seek reelection.

Williams' comments have drawn attention, especially in light of his past relationship with Harris.

Last Sunday, July 21, Williams made headlines when he appeared to distance himself from Harris by praising Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

He tweeted, "I’ve watched @GovWesMoore lead my home state of Maryland, and I know leadership when I see it. I'd love to see Wes Moore leading the ticket or otherwise on my ballot and I’m ready to campaign."

This comment came as a surprise to many, especially since Harris was gaining momentum as the Democratic nominee.

Conservative users on X (formerly known as Twitter) quickly resurrected old images of Williams and Harris at celebrity events from two decades ago, attempting to remind the public of their past relationship.

Trump campaign's tactics towards Montel Williams draw flak online

The internet was quick to react to the Trump campaign's tactics, with many users expresing their disdain for the jab at Montel Williams.

One X user stated, "The right can’t meme." Another remarked, "Cheung is bottom of the shoe gum."

A user wrote, "They are pretty triggered about JD Vance and the couch situation. They always project their own shame on others. It is a MSOP. (MAGA Standard Operating Procedure)." Someone else posted, "They are never beating these being weirdos allegations."

"This is what happens when they try to 'turn the tables' but they don’t understand the joke so they can’t be witty - it’s just ends up being weird, like they are - have a great Monday all!" one user wrote. Another user stated, "It's a very poor attempt at trying to be funny they're just weird."

A user commented, "Republicans are just weird." One individual said, "The right is so weird (and desperately bad at memes)."
