NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Kamala Harris showed up at the Met Gala looking like she had landed straight from a Vogue cover shoot — but the move seems to have backfired.

Her understated appearance sparked a burning question among critics: Who paid for her $75,000 ticket?

Kamala Harris' surprise appearance at Met Gala 2025 raises questions

According to a spokesman speaking to CNN, Harris was invited by Vogue queen bee Anna Wintour herself.

The former vice president showed up with her husband, Doug Emhoff, both looking polished. Harris was wearing a custom Off-White gown while Doug rocked a tux from Brunello Cucinelli.

Critics on social media wasted zero time dragging Harris for her presence and her fashion, especially as the country grapples with inflation.

"Who paid for Kamala’s Met Gala $75,000 ticket. I thought she grew up in a middle-class household? So out of touch. Btw, that's a hideous dress," one person slammed.

"I thought Kamala Harris was very worried about the poor and was sorry for them, really she attended the Met Gala last night, ticket prices started at $75,000 — seems she was not that worried," another griped.

Someone else wrote: "With a $20 million debt from her campaign, she can afford a $75,000 ticket for the Met Gala?? Well, we guess this just proves how budget-minded DemUNIST really are."

“While regular folks are scraping by, she’s flaunting a dress that probably cost $75,000. Come on, read the room!” a comment read.

“I don’t think I’ve seen an uglier dress — literally looks like she’s wearing the sheets off the bed. It matches her personality. She can’t decide if she’s black or white," another quipped.

Harris’s gown — a black-and-white, long-sleeved number with an asymmetrical cape and flowing scarf — was Off-White’s nod to this year’s Met Gala theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style'. The theme was curated by Monica L Miller, whose book 'Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity' inspired the entire exhibit.

Off-White’s creative director, IB Kamara, gushed about the pick. “To me, the true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength. There is no person who exemplifies these characteristics more than Kamala D Harris, someone who has overcome adversity and continues to be a beacon for so many," she said.

Before she even stepped onto the Met carpet, Harris and Emhoff were spotted dining at NYC’s elite Polo Bar on Sunday night. The duo reportedly rolled in with two dozen Secret Service agents and cops locking down the scene while they dined for about two hours.

At around 9:30 pm, the couple emerged from the hotspot and headed straight into a bulletproof car waiting outside. Inside, they mingled with diners who reportedly had to book their tables a month in advance, and even snapped pics with some.

Kamala Harris' comeback

Though she’s mostly kept a low profile since her election loss to President Donald Trump in November, Kamala Harris has been slowly tiptoeing back into the spotlight.

Last week, Harris took the stage at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco during the Emerge 20th anniversary gala, delivering a keynote that started fashionably late. “It’s good to be home!” she cackled as she began.

She then went straight for Trump, calling out his “reckless tariffs” and accusing him of creating “the biggest manmade economic crisis in modern presidential history.” According to Harris, these tariffs “hurt workers and families” and raise costs for Americans.

But she also tossed in a bizarre analogy, urging Democrats to find inspiration from the elephants at the San Diego Zoo.

Harris, 60, is reportedly worth $6 million (her husband clocks in around $8 million). She’s graced the cover of Vogue twice — once in 2021 with Converse sneakers and again in 2023 in a formal chocolate brown Gabriela Hearst suit and Tiffany jewelry, per the Daily Mail.
