SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Kamala Harris is stepping back onto the national stage once again — but not everyone is thrilled about it.

The former vice president and failed presidential candidate is set to deliver the keynote at the Emerge 20th anniversary gala at San Francisco’s Palace Hotel on Wednesday night, April 30.

Of course, it’s a political fundraiser and a fancy one at that. If you’ve got $50,000 to spare, you can be a sponsor. But if you're just there for the content, a $25 virtual ticket will do. The speech will be live-streamed for those not attending in person, according to the Daily Mail.

According to CNN, Harris is expected to serve up a “call to action,” telling activists and would-be politicians to speak up against President Donald Trump. It’s being hyped as her big return.

“She will reflect on the enduring promise of America,” an unnamed source told the LA Times, “and issue a call to action in the face of reckless economic policies and the urgent and escalating crisis facing America's institutions and global leadership.”

The event is hosted by Emerge, a Democrat group that trains women to run for office. Harris has a long history with them — the group was actually founded after she won her race for San Francisco district attorney. Apparently, her early advisors saw a lack of resources for women candidates and decided to do something about it.

Now, years later, she’s back in their spotlight. “Vice President Harris is the original Emerge woman,” said A’shanti F Gholar, the group’s president and CEO. “She continues to be a champion for Emerge and an advocate for elevating women in elected office.”

Kamala Harris roasted into oblivion following comeback news

But not everyone is cheering for her encore. Critics on social media were quick to pounce.

"When you fire a head coach, the last person you want to hear from is a fired head coach," one quipped on X.

"Oh, this should be really good! Good in terms of comedy. Her speech writers are busy right now putting cackles and word salad together and some gibberish about her being middle class and Trump being a dictator," a second user chimed in.

"Can’t wait to hear more about the duality of Democracy in this moment," another added, mocking some of her empty messaging lines from the presidential campaign.

"Everyone already knows she will fail at the speech, given she slurs, makes up stories, and gets lost in the middle of the stories," someone else added.

"Literally no one cares about her or the script she's going to read," a comment read.

"She covered up the biggest political scandal in American history...she needs to sit down and shut up," another insisted, referring to former President Biden's decline.

What is Kamala Harris thinking?

Speculation is heating up around Harris’s next move. It is possible that she runs for Governor of California in 2026 — that job will be up for grabs soon since Gavin Newsom is term-limited, and he's already got his eye on the White House in 2028.

Or maybe Harris wants another crack at the presidency herself in 2028. Word is, she still feels she didn’t get enough time to show what she could do during her short-lived 2024 campaign.

For now, however, she’s keeping things vague. According to insiders, Harris is “resting and reconsidering her political future.” A decision is expected by the end of the summer.

But even while “resting,” Harris hasn’t exactly disappeared. Back in April, she popped up at the Leading Women Defined event with a not-so-humble jab at Trump. “I’m not here to say, ‘I told you so,’” she said, flashing a grin. “I swore I wasn’t going to say that.”

Earlier in February, she got theatrical during a speech to the NAACP — warning of “flames on our horizons", “rising waters in our cities", and “the shadows gathering over our democracy.”

“Our strength flows from our faith — faith in God, faith in each other, and our refusal to surrender to cynicism and destruction,” Harris said at the time. “Not because it is easy, but because it is necessary. Not because victory is guaranteed, but because the fight is worth it.”
