JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI: Kamala Harris became a subject of much ridicule online after she was given the key to the city of Jackson, Mississippi, by Mayor John Horhn (D).

Horhn also declared January 14 to be “Kamala Harris Day” while appreciating her many “accomplishments.” The former vice president was in Jackson, Mississippi, as part of a book tour promoting her memoir, ‘107 Days’, when she was honored.

During an event at Thalia Mara Hall on Wednesday, January 14, evening, the mayor reportedly told Harris, “Kamala, you don’t know what you mean to Jackson, Mississippi. You don’t know what you mean to Mississippi. You don’t know what you mean to America.”

John Horhn says Mississippi needs Kamala Harris more

He then said that “in recognition of your many, many firsts, in recognition of all of the accomplishments that you have made … I signed a proclamation declaring Jan 14, 2026, Kamala Harris Day in Jackson, Mississippi.”

“We need you now, more than ever,” Horhn added while presenting the former Democratic presidential candidate, 61, with the the city’s key during the event, celebrating the reopening of the concert hall, which was shut down in August 2024 for renovation.

Harris reportedly accepted the honors humbly, saying, “Well, that was a great way to start,” before moving toward promoting her book, which is a detailed account of her presidential campaign.

However, people online were in disbelief over Harris getting recognition.

One X user commented, “This is a joke, right?”

Another X user quipped, “We can name 1 of Kamala Harris' 'accomplishments'... 🙄 As the Biden admin's 'Border Czar', Harris both stayed far away from the border while simultaneously allowing an estimated 5 million illegal migrants to flood into the USA during a housing crisis.”

“February 30th is now known as Kamala Harris Day!” a tweet said.

“Kamala Harris Day, So are we all going to get Drunk and giggle and talk about being unburdened by the stuff?” a person posted on X.

One user sarcastically wrote, “It's no easy thing to spend a billion dollars on an election and lose.”

A post on X read, “Her accomplishment??? Highest level reached through DEI.”

Another user posted, “Maybe Mayor Horhn wanted January 14th to be a day of rest in Jackson. If that was the case, there is no one who has done less than Kamala Harris.”

Kamala Harris thrashes 'tyrant' Trump at Jackson event

At the event, in her speech, Harris attacked President Donald Trump by calling him “corrupt” and “incompetent”.

She went on to claim that she had “predicted almost everything that’s happened” under the Trump government.

“But what I did not predict was the capitulation, the titans of industry, the powerful people who just bent the knee to the foot of a tyrant,” the Democrat said.

Harris also compared the Republican leader with disgraced Alabama politician Bull Connor.

She stated, “Mississippi knows it well, Bull Connor, I mean, we know, we have had figures throughout history that have been about destruction and have not elevated our best angels or our better angels.”

Connor, who rose through local politics as a staunch segregationist, gained infamy during the 1963 Birmingham Campaign.

The campaign was organized by Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to challenge segregation. Connor had then ordered police to use high-pressure fire hoses, attack dogs, and mass arrests against nonviolent protesters, including children.

These brutal methods drew global outrage, galvanizing support for civil rights legislation and contributing to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Connor lost power after Birmingham voters reformed the city government in 1962, partly due to his actions damaging the city's reputation.
