Kanye West's 'Vultures 1' briefly pulled off Apple Music over copyright issues sparking online debate
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's contentious album 'Vultures 1' has been a hot topic for some time. The much-discussed album was unexpectedly pulled from Apple Music due to due to "service agreement violations."
However, the removal was temporary. According to Rolling Stone, the album was back on the platform just hours after being taken down, despite the initial distributor's intentions to withdraw it from streaming services.
Why was Kanye West's album 'Vultures 1' removed from Apple Music?
On Thursday, February 15, the album 'Vultures 1' was removed from the streaming platform following a violation of a service agreement, as stated by the LP's distributor, Fuga.
Despite this setback, the album, which is trending towards the No. 1 spot, was later reinstated on the platform.
Apple did not provide any reasons for the album's removal. However, since its launch, the album has been plagued by allegations of unauthorized samples.
Earlier on the same day, an independent distribution company expressed grievances that their system had been exploited to release the music, contravening their terms of service, per the New York Times.
The album was intended to mark Kanye's return to the music scene after a series of controversies in 2022. Despite being without a record label or booking agent, and having his partnership with Adidas terminated, Kanye managed to release the 16-track album after hosting listening events in Chicago and Long Island.
The album quickly gained popularity on streaming platforms, despite a brief removal shortly after its release and allegations of unauthorized use of music from Ozzy Osbourne and Donna Summer.
One track, 'Good (Don't Die),' which sampled Summer's 1977 song 'I Feel Love,' was removed from Spotify.
Despite high streaming numbers indicating that 'Vultures 1' was set to top the charts, the album was temporarily removed from Apple Music but remained available on other platforms.
This was due to a conflict with Fuga, a distribution platform that works with independent record labels.
Fuga revealed that it had declined to release 'Vultures 1' last year, but a client had delivered the album to online services, violating their service agreement, leading Fuga to reportedly issue takedown notices to streaming platforms.
