Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race

Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 22, that he is ending his reelection bid weeks after his disastrous debate performance on June 27 that sparked concerns among Democrats who called on the president to step aside and allow someone to replace him as the party's presidential nominee.

During the debate against Donald Trump, Biden appeared to lack energy and stumbled throughout the event leading to questions over his age, health, mental fitness, and capability to serve another four-year term.

As he announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race, the 81-year-old commander-in-chief issued an endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.

"While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," read Biden's statement.

Republican criticism of Joe Biden's presidency

Prominent Republicans, including GOP vice presidential nominee Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio), have questioned Joe Biden's fitness to lead the nation, suggesting that if he is unfit to run for reelection, he should also step down from the presidency.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, July 2023, Trump criticised Biden's presidency as he wrote, "Does Lyin’ Kamala Harris think Joe Biden is fit to run the U.S.A. for the next six months? She must answer the question."

"Now it appears Joe is delegating his Presidential Authority to unelected Washington Bureaucrats! He doesn’t even trust his Vice President. WHO IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY?" he added.

Internet criticizes Karine Jean-Pierre for dismissing Republican calls for Joe Biden to resign

As Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed Republicans calling for Joe Biden's resignation from his presidency in the wake of his withdrawal from the 2024 race, netizens mocked the White House press secretary defending the President's stance.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "Shame on you," while another tweeted, "His 'historic leadership' has ruined us- he should resign and take you with him."

"Unprecedented historic work? Like what? Running our country into the ground?" a netizen commented and someone else wrote, "Does anyone buy into this garbage?"

"LOL!! You lied about Biden being fit to run for reelection for months. You're lying now," a user remarked and another netizen opined, "How do you sleep at night? Gaslighting the country by say!"
