Katie Holmes spotted with bruised face as she keeps a low profile during outing in NYC

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Katie Holmes was seen sporting a bruised face and eye during her outing in New York City on Monday, July 22. 

When the 45-year-old actress stepped out in the Big Apple on Monday, a dark bruise under her left eye was clearly visible. The right side of her face also had an apparent swelling, per Daily Mail.

For the outing in the Big Apple, the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star wore a makeup-free look and opted for casual dressing. 

She wore a deep blue tee paired with cream wide-legged pants. The ‘Batman Begins’ star left her damp tresses open and opted for a dark-colored baseball cap to cover her head. 

The reason for her bruises are still unknown. 

The mother-of-one’s outing came at a time when her daughter Suri - who dropped her famous father Tom Cruise’s surname upon turning 18 - is preparing to attend college in the fall.

Suri to attend college in Pittsburgh

Suri Noelle was born on April 18, 2006. After Tom Cruise divorced Katie Holmes in 2012, he reportedly didn't see much of Suri and remained distant from her.

Suri celebrated her 18th birthday this year. The teenager graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts last month and is preparing to join college in the fall. 

The 18-year-old will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this fall.

While Suri will be flying away for her education and leaving home for the first time, Katie is scheduled to join the cast of ‘Poker Face’ as a guest star.

The ‘Dark Knight’ star announced her collaboration by writing on Instagram recently, “Thank you [Natasha Lyonne] for having me!” while attaching a screengrab of a Variety article confirming the news. 

Along with Katie and Lyonne, stars like Giancarlo Esposito, Gaby Hoffmann, and Kumail Nanjiani will be welcomed as guest stars in the show.

Suri takes up mom Katie Holmes’ middle name as surname

After dropping her father’s surname Cruise from her name, Suri has been using her mother’s middle name Noelle as her surname. 

A source close to the family recently shared with Page Six that her name selection is in a way to “praise her mother".

The source added, “She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name.”

The source further speculated that the teenager changed her name because she “wants her own identity,” as the new name might help her to “avoid the paparazzi” and allow her to “start fresh at college".

Ever since Katie and the ‘Top Gun’ actor finalized their divorce, the actress has been parenting solo. Once Katie gushed about her daughter, saying, “I feel very blessed to have such a special daughter. Being her mom is absolutely the greatest gift and privilege.”
