Keanu Reeves shares update on his return to 'John Wick 5' while revealing health concerns

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Keanu Reeves, the face of the John Wick franchise since its debut in 2014, has expressed both excitement and hesitation about returning for a potential fifth installment.

During an appearance on 'CBS Mornings', Reeves revealed that while his “heart” is open to reprising the role, his body might not be up for the intense action sequences that have defined the series.

“You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” he joked, adding, “So my heart [wants to], I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

Although a new John Wick movie may not be on the immediate horizon, fans will still get a glimpse of Keanu Reeves in the upcoming spinoff, 'From the World of John Wick: Ballerina'.

The actor is set to make a cameo as the titular assassin, continuing the franchise’s legacy while taking a step back from its physically demanding lead role.

Reeves, who celebrated the success of 'John Wick 4' during its March 2023 premiere, shared his passion for the action genre.

“I love action, I love movie action, I especially love John Wick action, so whatever it takes,” he said.

However, he also admitted to accumulating “lots of bruises” during filming, underscoring the physical toll of the high-octane stunts, according to Page Six.

When asked why he continues to return to the demanding franchise, Reeves credited his deep affection for the character and the unique style of the films.

Future prospects for 'John Wick'

Keanu Reeves’ return to the franchise is not completely off the table.

In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, he hinted at the possibility of a fifth film, saying, “I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never.”

However, he emphasized the importance of working with director Chad Stahelski, adding, “I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad."

"We'd have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace,” he noted.

Outside of John Wick, Reeves is exploring diverse roles. He is set to voice the villain Shadow in the upcoming 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3'.

Speaking about his portrayal of Shadow, Reeves said, “For 50 years, Shadow has been in a state of suspended animation. He’s coming out of it seeking revenge. It was really the internal journey to get to the anger and the emotion."

"It was intense. Sonic 3 and playing Shadow…it’s really on another level,” he added, according to Screen Rant.
