LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner, the star of 'Horizon: An American Saga', recently revealed that Prince William once told him that his mother, the late Princess Diana, was quite fond of the actor.

Costner, 69, shared that the future British king wanted a private conversation with him. Although he accepted, he was uncertain about what to expect, People reported.

How did Kevin Costner get a chance to meet Prince William?

When Kevin Costner learned that Prince William wanted to meet him privately some years ago, the Oscar winner didn't hesitate.

Costner recalled, "I happened to be in England, and I got this message that the prince would love to talk, and I said, 'What?'... and then I went, 'Okay.'"

The star recalled the moments he met William, how they embraced, and shared the first words that came out of the prince's mouth during their meeting.

"We met in this room, and it was just us," Coster said. "He walked up, and we shook hands... The first line out of his mouth was, 'You know, my mom kind of fancied you.'"

Costner, who refrained from sharing details of their conversation, described the experience of meeting the Prince of Wales as "very sweet." He called Prince William "quite a young man."

The actor reflected on his "fond memories of who [William] was, how [he] was approached, and what [they] talked about."

Years earlier, Costner had been in contact with Diana, who tragically died in a car crash in 1997 at age 37, about collaborating on a sequel to his 1992 hit 'The Bodyguard', co-starring Whitney Houston.

"There was a moment that that was really flying down the tracks, very quietly, because it's how I operate," remarked Costner, who was introduced to her by her sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson.

Costner claimed, "It was so sweet. Sarah was the one that set this up. Sarah was very cool... when she could have been going, 'Well, I’m a princess too. What about me?' She didn’t do that at all. Diana and I began to talk."
