LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The exit of Kevin Costner's character from the show 'Yellowstone' was not taken well by many fans initially. However, as the show continued without John Dutton, fans seem to have changed their stance.
When the show first returned in November without Dutton, it made fans flood social media, scolding the writers and Taylor Sheridan for not handling John Dutton’s exit to their liking, according to Whiskey Riff.

When Kevin Costner bid adieu to the show, many believed that it would lose its spark. However, that is not the case as the show is not just treading water but is moving with speed and precision, keeping fans interested, according to the outlet.
Moreover, some of the 'Yellowstone's faithful fans love how other characters have been given the chance to shine in the absence of John Dutton. Characters such as Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) have stepped up and made up for the loss of John Dutton.

Kevin Costner reacts to John Dutton’s controversial fate
Kevin Costner finally reacted to the grim and controversial fate his character John Dutton III suffered on 'Yellowstone', a day after season five part two premiered on November 10.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s 'The Michael Smerconish Program' on November 11, Costner said, "I'm going to be perfectly honest. I didn't know it was actually airing last night," according to E! News.
The actor added, "That's a swear to god moment. I've been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I'm thinking, ‘Gee, I'm not in that one.’ But I didn't realize yesterday was the thing."
Costner, who played the Dutton family's patriarch for more than four years, left the show after the last episode of season five part one aired in January 2023.
