MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Grammy-winning artist Kid Cudi took the witness stand on Thursday, May 23, in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial, detailing a disturbing series of events involving a home break-in and a suspicious car fire he believes were connected to the music mogul.

Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, recounted an unsettling 2011 incident when Combs allegedly broke into his Hollywood Hills residence after learning Cudi was dating his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.

Back in 2011, the 'Pursuit of Happiness' singer was dating Ventura while she was still navigating her on-again, off-again relationship with Combs, which didn’t officially wrap up until 2018.

This was because, Cudi recalled in his testimony, that he answered a ‘really stressed’ and ‘scared’ call from his then-girlfriend Cassie saying that Combs had found out about their relationship.

But while at the hotel, he received a call from Combs’ assistant claiming she was inside Cudi’s home with Combs and another individual and they were waiting for him, the employee, Cudi claimed, sounded ‘very scared’, states The Guardian.

Cudi said he called Combs while driving home and inquired if he was at his house. Combs allegedly replied, “I just want to talk to you,” and when Cudi said he was on his way, Combs responded, “I’m over here waiting for you.”

But when Cudi arrived, Combs was gone. He noticed items out of place and found his dog locked in the bathroom. The rapper was distraught to find his dog, who roamed freely in the house in such a condition, and claimed that following the break-in incident, his pet had always remained jittery and on edge.

Cudi said he called the police and filed a report for the apparent break-in. Later in court during the cross-examination, Cudi said there was no damage to his Los Angeles home after the apparent break-in and acknowledged that he had left the front door unlocked.

Cudi explained that he wasn’t having issues with anyone else during that period except for Combs. “I knew he had something to do with it,” he stated, prompting immediate objections from Combs’ legal team.

Cudi’s account supports earlier testimony from Cassie Ventura, who stated Combs had threatened to blow up Cudi’s car after discovering their relationship. On the witness stand, Ventura also shared that she dated Mescudi briefly but felt compelled to end things because she was worried about how Combs might react.

“I just remember him putting a wine opener between his fingers and lunging at me,” Ventura testified.

While testifying, Ventura described in more detail what she said happened when she came back, trying to sort things out. She claimed that a furious Combs physically assaulted her and threatened to leak “freak off” videos, warning he would harm both her and Mescudi, PEOPLE reported.

“Yes,” Cudi confirmed when asked whether Ventura was living two separate lives.

Cudi admitted he was in love with Ventura and was hurt when she eventually returned to Combs.

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to sweeping charges of trafficking and racketeering. He denies all accusations, including threatening women or forcing them into drug-fueled group known in the case as “freak-offs.”
