LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kieran Culkin called it last month. 'Succession' star warned Adrien Brody to keep it short, but at the 2025 Oscars, Brody ignored him.

Brody's Best Actor acceptance speech at the 2025 Oscars lasted an unprecedented five minutes and forty seconds, setting a new record for the longest in Oscars history, as confirmed by Guinness World Records that sent producers scrambling to cut him off.

At the SAG Awards in February, Kieran Culkin who won Best Supporting Actor for 'A Real Pain' jokingly singled out Adrien Brody, urging him to stay within the Academy’s strict 45-second limit.

Culkin playfully acknowledged the weight of his award during the Feb 23 ceremony, quipping, "Thank you SAG-AFTRA, for this incredibly heavy award. That's why they put the thing here, I guess, right? I don't think it's any way anyone can hold this for 45 seconds, which is the allotted time." He then stressed, "Adrian Brody, 45 seconds."

Brody didn’t win that night, losing to Timothee Chalamet. But at the Oscars, where he took home Best Actor for 'The Brutalist', he seized the moment and refused to let go.

The 51-year-old actor stepped up to the podium, tossed his chewing gum to his girlfriend Georgina Chapman, and started his acceptance speech that quickly spiraled into Oscars history.

“I’m wrapping up. Please. Please. I will wrap up,” he insisted before continuing for another minute. “Please turn the music off. I’ve done this before. It’s not my first rodeo. I will be brief.” By the time he finished, Brody had spoken for five minutes and 40 seconds, making it the longest Oscars speech ever recorded.

The previous record held by Greer Garson in 1943 stood at five minutes and 30 seconds.

Kieran Culkin may have predicted the future. The internet is buzzing after his joke about Adrien Brody’s speech time at the SAG Awards turned out to be eerily accurate during the Oscars.

Fans quickly pointed out that at the SAG Awards, Culkin jokingly warned Brody that speeches are only “allotted 45 seconds” a remark that now seems prophetic.

One user wrote, “In hindsight, Kieran’s jab at the SAG Awards telling Adrien Brody he’s only allotted 45 seconds for his speech was quite prescient.”

Another added, “Remember when Kieran Culkin made a joke at Adrien Brody at the SAGs about how the allotted speech time is 45 seconds??? We needed him again tonight!”

“He was ahead of his time,” a user said.

Viewers were quick to critique Brody’s drawn-out speech. “This was too long, for real. He said nothing interesting,” one user complained.

Another noted, “Wow! He beat James Cameron’s record!” referring to the director’s famously lengthy speeches.
