Kodak Black's lawyer requests dismissal of drug charge, claims tests prove alleged cocaine was oxycodone
PLANTATION, FLORIDA: Kodak Black's layer insists that his client was slapped with the wrong charges as the rapper apparently did not possess illegal substances when police found him in Plantation, Florida, in December 2023.
Black remains in a Miami federal detention center since his arrest.
Authorities claimed Kodak Black was in possession of cocaine during his recent arrest
Black is said to have had cocaine in his possession when police found him sleeping inside a black Bentley SUV blocking a roadway, as per TMZ.
He was swiftly detained by the cops, who said he was trying to hide the drug from them. They also claimed his vehicle smelled strongly of cannabis and the singer apparently had white powder in his mouth.
Consequentially, he was slapped with charges of possession, evidence tampering, and a traffic violation.
Kodak Black's lawyer insists the rapper only had a prescribed drug on him
Black's lawyer, Bradford Cohen, recently requested the court to drop the case of drug possession against him, as reported by TMZ.
In his court filing, he stated that the substance found in the possession of his client was oxycodone, a prescription opioid analgesic, and not cocaine, as claimed by the police who arrested the rapper.
The attorney also added that Black has a valid prescription for the drug. Moreover, he says that tests run on the supposed substance proved that it was Percocet, a combination pill containing acetaminophen and oxycodone.
Notably, in 2022, the musician was arrested for having 31 oxycodone tablets inside the vehicle.
Kodak Black's lawyer calls the drug possession charge brought against him 'an abuse of discretion'

In a statement, Black's lawyer, Cohen, noted, "This is an abuse of discretion to file a charge on an individual that has provided a valid prescription for the very item that as found."
He asserted, "All this after the officer misrepresented and said it was cocaine. Clearly, it was not cocaine, nothing has happened to the officer who misrepresented the item, and my client was taken into custody due to his misrepresentation."
"The fact that this case has not been dismissed by the Broward State Attorney's Office shows that bias against Mr Kapri. Anyone else would have had their case dismissed or they wouldn't have filed," noted Cohen.
"Now, instead of this matter being handled by the regular prosecutor in the division, a simple possession is assigned to a drug trafficking unit. It displays the desire to not seek justice but to punitively and vindictively treat Mr Kapri different than any other defendant," elaborated the attorney.
A decision is, however, yet to come on the new plea.
