WASHINGTON, DC: Kristi Noem publicly thanked Elon Musk and his technology team for helping her uncover a serious security breach on her work devices. To provide context, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security said that some staffers had secretly installed spyware on her government-issued phone and computer, allowing them to record meetings and monitor her activity.

Noem added that the same spyware had been found on devices used by other political appointees, prompting firings and internal investigations. She emphasized that outside technology experts were crucial in identifying the problem and preventing the spying from continuing.

Kristi Noem shared that Elon Musk helped her discover spyware that DHS staffers had installed on her phone and computer.

She said, “Elon Musk and his team were extremely helpful to me. They helped me identify that some of my own employees in my department had downloaded software on my phone and my laptop to spy on me to record our meetings. They had done that to several of the political.”

To address the threat, she brought in technology experts to examine all her laptops and phones. She added, “We ended up bringing in people. And that was something that if you didn't have those technology experts here in the department, looking at all of our laptops and our phones and recognizing that kind of software, it would still be happening today."

Noem also stressed the need for ongoing collaboration with tech professionals. She emphasized, “So one of the things I need to do and continue to do is partner with technology companies and experts to bring them in and help us."

“I always believed when people talked about the deep state before that it existed: I never would have dreamed that it was as bad as it is,” she added. “I’m still every day trying to dig out people who don’t love America, not just [those] who work at this department, but also work throughout the federal government.”

Kristi Noem alleges secret DHS SCIF, Deep State activity

Kristi Noem claimed that Deep State actors operated a secret spy base inside the DHS building. She said, “I just found the other day a whole room on this [DHS headquarters] campus that was a secret SCIF secure facility [Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility] that had files nobody knew existed."

She explained, “So we just happened to have an employee walk by a door and wonder what it was. Started asking questions. We went there. There were individuals working there that had secret files that nobody knew about on some of these most controversial topics, like that."

Noem added, “And now I’ve got that turned over to attorneys, and we’re getting to the bottom of what exactly happened there." She also described efforts to track the movement of scientists between US government labs and Chinese laboratories before the coronavirus outbreak.

She shared, “I also have national labs under my jurisdiction, they [have] scientists that participated with that [China-based] Wuhan lab. [We’re studying] how they were traveling back and forth between each other, and working on those experiments. It’s been eye-opening."
