Lauren Boebert makes clumsy attempt at cross gesture during chaotic House hearing
Seated between the clashing congresswomen during Thursday’s House Oversight Committee hearing, Boebert made an attempt at crossing herself.
The hearing, initially intended to discuss potential contempt proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland for withholding audio tapes related to an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, was overshadowed by a confrontation between Greene and Ocasio-Cortez.
During the fiery exchange, Greene taunted Ocasio-Cortez with, "Are your feelings hurt?" to which she retorted, "Oh girl, baby girl! Don’t even play!" Amid the chaos, Boebert’s attempt at the cross gesture was less than graceful.
The traditional Christian gesture of crossing oneself is rooted in ancient origins, symbolizing a plea for blessing or protection. It involves touching the forehead, breast, and shoulders in a specific sequence to signify the five wounds of Jesus Christ.
However, Boebert’s version left out the vertical motion, proceeding directly to crossing the shoulders.
Boebert, no stranger to media attention, had recently made headlines for her vocal support of former President Donald Trump during his hush-money trial in Manhattan. She was notably absent from her own son Tyler's court appearances, despite his serious legal troubles.
In February, Tyler was apprehended on numerous felony charges, including possessing identity documents unlawfully, trespassing criminally, and having a financial device in his possession.
