NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Representative Lauren Boebert sparked widespread criticism and mockery after attending Donald Trump's high-profile hush money trial in New York while skipping her teenage son's court appearance in Colorado.

The congresswoman's presence at the former president's trial on Thursday, May 16, prompted outrage across social media platforms, with many accusing her of neglecting her maternal duties, as per HuffPost.

Boebert was among the Republican lawmakers who showed up at the Manhattan courthouse to voice their support for Trump, who faces charges related to alleged hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

Boebert shared her support for Trump on social media, stating on X (formerly Twitter), "They may have gagged President Trump. They didn’t gag me. They didn’t gag the rest of us."

Boebert was accompanied in the courtroom by other notable Republicans, including Andy Biggs, Matt Gaetz, Eli Crane, and Mike Waltz. Additional Republican figures such as Ralph Norman, Anna Paulina Luna, Andy Ogles, and House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good, were also present.

In her address outside the courthouse, Boebert questioned the legitimacy of the charges against Trump.

"And I want all of the news to start asking the question, 'What is the crime?' Because everyone in this court has not been informed of what the crime is. The defendant does not know the crime that was committed," she asserted as her fellow GOP members left the podium.

Boebert’s decision to attend Trump’s trial instead of her son’s court appearance drew significant attention. Tyler, 19, was arrested in February in connection with vehicle trespasses and property thefts in Rifle, Colorado.

He was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including criminal possession of ID documents and conspiracy to commit a felony. During a previous court appearance, Tyler had expressed difficulty affording a lawyer, stating, "We are working to hire an attorney, but it's just been kind of hard with the prices, but we are working on it."

Despite acknowledging that her son's arrest "breaks my heart," Boebert was noticeably absent from his court proceedings.

Lauren Boebert mocked for focusing on Trump's trial instead of son's legal troubles

The internet erupted with scathing criticism and mockery of Boebert's decision to prioritize Trump's trial over her son's legal troubles. One X user commented, "Boebert for Mother of the Year! She’s trash…" while another wrote, "Bobo finds a new low, what a clown."

Another user stated, "Lauren Boebert deserves Shitty Mom of the Year Award," and a fourth user tweeted, "@laurenboebert is a horrible and despicable mother! What mother would not go to support their son at his court hearing?"

One user bluntly remarked, "Damn, a harp seal makes a better mother," while another attributed Tyler's troubles to Boebert's parenting, saying, "This kind of parenting is why this kid is in jail."

A seventh user mentioned, "Boebert is a terrible mother...and person." Lastly, an eight user remarked, "She's nothing but a fraud grifting off of her constituents and congress. Now THAT is truly government waste."
