LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Liam Payne's fans experienced an emotional moment as the Grammy Awards paid tribute to the former One Direction singer during the "In Memoriam" segment of the ceremony on Sunday, February 2, and said they don't want any more tributes.

The singer died on October 16, 2024, after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As per the autopsy, the 31-year-old died of "polytrauma and internal and external bleeding," according to Daily Mail.



 

2025 Grammys 'In Memoriam' segment opened with tribute to Liam Payne

During the 'In Memoriam' segment, the Grammys featured clips of Liam Payne's days with the boyband One Direction, according to Mirror. The video started with the singer standing alongside his bandmates on a rooftop as they looked over a crowd of fans below.

In the clip, Payne could be heard saying, "I never expected any of this to happen. You actually sit and think about it - we've done some amazing things."

As the video played, Coldplay frontrunner Chris Martin took to the stage and sang 'All My Love' to pay tribute to the late singer. Even though his former bandmates - Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik were not present at the ceremony, they had earlier paid their respects to Payne during his funeral in the UK in November last year.

The Grammys also honored other artists like Quincy Jones, Toby Keith, and Kris Kristofferson who died last year.

Moreover, host Trevor Noah paid tribute to the victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires and the tragic plane crashes in Washington, DC, and Philadelphia.

He said before announcing the "In Memoriam" segment, "Tonight, as we reflect on the devastation that has hit LA this month, we also want to send our thoughts to all those impacted by the tragedies that occurred recently in Washington and Philadelphia just this past week."

Liam Payne's Grammys tribute leaves fans in tears

Liam Payne took to social media to share their thoughts on the award ceremony's tribute to the late singer. 

One wrote, "I keep forgetting he isn’t with us anymore & then moments like these happen and it hits me all over again. he’s actually gone. Forever," while one added, "Did not see that Liam Payne tribute coming! So emotional and unexpected—#GRAMMYs hitting hard tonight!"



 



 

"And this just the Grammys!! I will cry so much during the Brits for their Liam's tribute!" a person mentioned, while someone else expressed, "When I saw the first second of the video I started crying and couldn't stop."



 



 

"The tribute to liam really has me bawling :(( seeing stuff like this and it still just doesn’t even feel real. liam payne forever & always," a person commented, with one more writing, "I woke up 5 minutes ago and I wanna cry already."



 



 

"I literally didn’t cry a tear during that whole thing until I saw that tribute… it caught me off guard," read one more comment. 

An individual declared, "I don’t want tributes, I want Liam back. He never deserved this at such a young age."

Another emotional fan wrote, "Tried to avoid the Grammys, but Liam’s tribute popped up and I am uncontrollably sobbing. I f**king hate it here. It’s not fair."
