Liam Payne’s close pal Rogelio Nores reveals reason why he didn’t want singer to travel to UK
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Liam Payne, the 31-year-old former One Direction member, left fans and loved ones grieving after his tragic death on October 16.
Known for his talents and tumultuous journey, Payne’s last days have come under scrutiny, with close friend Rogelio Nores shedding light on the singer’s struggles before his untimely death.
Nores, a long-time confidant, recently opened up about Payne’s struggles, detailing his concerns over Payne’s decision to travel to the UK.
According to Nores, he was uneasy about Payne's recent movements and had tried to dissuade the singer from making the trip, as per Page Six.
Rogelio Nores felt Liam Payne’s return to UK could compromise singer’s recovery progress
Liam Payne’s death has shaken fans, friends, and the music industry alike. His friend Rogelio Nores, who was there with Payne in his final hours, recalled the singer’s travel plans and how he was a little apprehensive hearing these plans.
Speaking to media outlets, Nores disclosed he had advised Payne not to travel to the UK to shoot his anticipated Netflix series. The show, reportedly titled 'Building the Band', was set to feature Payne alongside Nicole Scherzinger.
Nores, known to friends in the industry as "Rogers", had joined Payne in Buenos Aires, where Payne had flown in with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
Together, they were there to enjoy a Niall Horan concert. The gathering was intended to be a brief respite for Payne, who had been focused on his recovery following a difficult rehab period.
But when Payne mentioned his intention to proceed to London for the shoot, Nores felt a surge of concern.
"He wasn’t in the right state to take on such a demanding project," Nores shared, referring to Payne's vulnerability to the temptations that awaited him in the UK.
The English capital, with its high-profile connections and lingering past associations, posed potential dangers to Payne’s recovery.
According to Nores, he had explicitly reached out to Payne’s father, George, in an attempt to intervene.
In an email retrieved by Page Six, Nores shared his deep concerns: "Liam stayed at my friend’s ranch down in Palm Beach, and since the first day he arrived, he has been monitored and treated by professional doctors who specialize in addictions. He stayed fully clean without access to any hard drugs during his whole stay."
Nores also wrote, “I’m really concerned for his well-being while he is out there and I hope you can bring professional doctors to check on his health regularly as soon as possible, as I did while he was out in the US.”
In his message, Nores made it clear that Payne’s return to the UK could compromise the singer’s progress.
Rogelio Nores was Liam Payne's pillar of support during recovery from addiction
As Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy continued their travels, they attended a wedding in Paris and vacationed in Greece before landing in Argentina.
The trip was supposed to be a brief four-day affair to renew Payne’s US visa, yet it became complicated when Payne's history with rehab led the US Embassy to extend his stay, requiring him to undergo a drug test.
Despite the unexpected delay, Payne appeared determined to make the most of his time with friends, staying at the CasaSur hotel near Nores’ home in Buenos Aires.
Nores and Payne attended Horan's concert together with their partners, a seemingly joyful outing amidst the challenges Payne faced.
"He seemed to enjoy the music and time with us, but he was battling something deeper," Nores recalled.
Nores, a notable figure in Argentina’s energy sector, had been a pillar of support for Payne during his drug addiction recovery.
A graduate of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Nores established Stoneway Capital, an energy fund that contributed significantly to Argentina's energy infrastructure.
Backed by German conglomerate Siemens, he had raised an impressive billion dollars in capital by age 27, establishing seven power plants across Argentina and providing power to over a million homes.
His achievements earned him a place on Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 list in the energy sector in 2018.
