Liam Payne's dad was concerned after singer fired bodyguard who allegedly stopped him from doing drugs
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: Geoff Payne, the father of the late singer Liam Payne, was reportedly worried about his son when he released a bodyguard from his service who allegedly tried to stop him from doing drugs, the Express US reported over a month into the investigation following his death.
The 31-year-old former member of the boy band One Direction tragically died on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Law enforcement officials have revealed that Liam was intoxicated at the time of his death, and the toxicology report confirmed the presence of controlled substances in his system. The pop star also caused a disturbance in the lobby before the accident where the hotel staff had to intervene.
Cause of concern for Liam Payne's father Geoff Payne
Documents from the proceedings of the investigation revealed Liam Payne's father had been concerned for the well-being of his son for quite sometime before the tragedy. He believed the star needed to stay busy and never be left alone.
According to the publication, Geoff's concerns escalated in September when Liam fired a bodyguard who was reportedly trying to prevent him from using drugs.
Investigators believe drugs played a key role in Liam's untimely death, as they ruled out the incident being suicide. It has been suggested that the singer was likely in a state of "semi or total unconsciousness" when he fell, which authorities consider to be a substance-induced 'psychotic episode'.
Liam Payne allegedly attempted to escape from hotel room
Emerging reports about the events leading up to Liam Payne's death suggest he attempted to escape the Buenos Aires hotel room where he was staying and wearing a bag for that purpose.
The star had struggled with feelings of confinement during his time with One Direction and often showed a deep aversion to being confined to a hotel room.
The hotel allegedly knew of the situation, and that Payne would attempt to use the balcony as a means of escape, but reportedly allowed him to remain unattended.
Payne's body was discovered with a bag on his shoulder, suggesting that he was indeed trying to get out. A hotel guest staying on the second floor further discovered a leather bag, reportedly belonging to Liam, containing a bottle of Jack Daniel's, pills, and a note labeled "for Liam" mysteriously left on their balcony.
It is theorized that it might have been lowered from the third floor as part of the late singer's escape plan.
