Liam Payne allegedly 'promised' to give his missing $38K Rolex watch to woman after 'love' confession
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: A woman, who spent time with Liam Payne before his death, recently claimed that the singer had "promised" her his now-missing £30,000 (approximately $38,731) Rolex watch before his death.
The former One Direction singer's watch, which is yet to be found, disappeared when the woman he spent time with before his tragic death on October 16 returned to his hotel room, The Mirror reported.
Liam Payne allegedly 'promised' woman his missing $38K Rolex watch
According to credible Argentine news website Infobae, the woman claimed she forgot her makeup and was given permission to return to the third-floor room of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires to get it.
Citing people familiar with the ongoing criminal investigation, the website stated, "There Payne's Rolex watch disappeared."
The woman and another female who visited the hotel were alleged to have been promised £5,000 (approximately $6,300) by Payne, but they did not receive the full amount.
Infobae claimed that the two women later told prosecutors that Payne, a "gentleman," had knelt before them and uttered the words, "I love you, I love you."
The 'Kiss You' singer even allegedly "promised them" his Rolex watch, but he left to give them additional cash in the lobby or the room.
Then, Payne's former manager and friend Roger Nores showed up and made an effort to "resolve the situation," according to the women.
However, Payne tragically died 40 minutes later after falling three stories from his hotel room balcony at the age of 31.
Although Payne was spotted wearing the Rolex—which is thought to be worth about $38,000—on the day of his death, it was not on his wrist when he fell and has disappeared since.
Authorities have since searched Payne's hotel room and the residences of several people who were known to have been involved with the singer on that particular day, including the residences of the two women, but the Rolex has not yet been found.
A detective working on the case stated, "We know, from images that were analyzed, that Payne was wearing a Rolex on the day of his death. He was wearing it on one of his hands and he had it for at least two to three hours before he (died)."
Liam Payne 'hated' Buenos Aires hotel room where he was staying before death
According to reports, Liam Payne "hated" being in his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and he tragically fell to his death while trying to escape.
The 31-year-old singer did not like being confined to hotel rooms, per The Mirror.
Employees at the Casa Sur Hotel were believed to have been aware that Payne was threatening to flee from the balcony but chose to leave him alone. The singer had even escaped from a balcony before.
According to Infobae, the singer asked for $300 bottles of Moet and Chandon Champagne, and Johnnie Walker Black Label Whisky in the hours before he died.
Prosecutors are reportedly developing the theory that the money was used to pay back a drug dealer.
Prosecutors contend Payne was "unconscious or semi-conscious" when he fell, ruling out self-harm or suicide.
They came to the conclusion that the singer, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of his death, was either unaware of what he was doing or lacked understanding of what he was doing.
According to reports, Payne was acting "erratically and smashed his laptop in the lobby" before being taken to his room.
Two emergency calls were allegedly placed by hotel staff regarding a guest who had "too many drugs and alcohol" and was "trashing the entire room."
According to a post-mortem, Payne died from multiple injuries as well as internal and external bleeding brought on by the fall. Since then, three individuals have been charged related to his death, one of whom is a hotel employee.
