The adored celebrity took a vacation with his girlfriend of two years, Kate Cassidy, but she came home by herself after they extended their stay.

Cassidy was prepared to go back to Los Angeles, but Payne remained overseas and tragically died 48 hours later.

In the days leading up to Payne's death, his distraught girlfriend offered more information about her choice to leave Argentina. Cassidy further revealed to friends that she set Payne a deadline to quit taking drugs and insisted the singer choose "her or drugs."

Payne was allegedly drug-free in his last months, but he seemed to have relapsed into drug use and alcohol use shortly before his death.

Speaking to the New York Post, an alleged friend, who frequently communicates with the 25-year-old influencer, revealed: "His [Payne] drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs."

"He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love. She didn’t know that it would end the way it did," the source added.

Cassidy has previously described the singer's prolonged extension of their holiday in Argentina to friends as a "hostage situation."

The friend added, "She had to go. It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami."

Cassidy's assertions followed an Argentine waiter who came out to proclaim his innocence. Braian Nahuel Paiz, 24, is suspected of being the "dealer" who gave Payne the drugs, although he refuted all of the accusations.

The influencer provided her friends with more information after watching a television interview of the suspected drug dealer being investigated in connection with Payne's death on October 16.

During the interview, Paiz maintained that he had done nothing wrong. Although he admitted meeting with the 'Strip That Down' singer twice at a hotel, he claimed that he did not provide Payne any drugs.

Paiz told the local news organization Telefe Noticias: "We took drugs together but I never took drugs to him or accepted any money. Our second hotel meeting was on the night of Sunday, October 13."

"We spent the night together, we consumed drugs because the truth is that something intimate happened."

According to the insider, Cassidy is furious by the shocking accusations and has been telling friends that Paiz is dishonest and a liar. "She says that he’d say anything to get out of this," the friend stated.

The source added, "It’s lie after lie after lie. She doesn’t think they had an intimate night together and she says that the entire interview was completely self-serving. She is looking forward to seeing what happens when he is prosecuted."

Cassidy posted an Instagram tribute to Payne following his death where she wrote in part: "A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together... I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go. Forever yours, Katelyn 444."
