The unexpected death of Liam Payne at the age of 31 has left fans all around the world in tremendous grief. Since the announcement, tributes from his loyal fans, industry leaders, and fellow artists have been pouring in online.

According to police reports, the former One Direction member suffered severe wounds after falling from the third floor of his hotel in the Palermo neighborhood.

An old video of the late musician performing an acoustic rendition of Bieber's 'Love Yourself' has resurfaced online amid the worldwide grief.

Payne was spotted singing a handful of his solo singles and the Bieber song from his fourth studio album, 'Purpose', inside a minimalist set at a private venue during what is believed to be his final performance in 2022.

Payne began touring at the same time that his solo first album, 'LP1', was released in 2019. He did, however, play less regularly in 2021, and his 2022 private acoustic gig is listed as his last performance on 'Set List FM'.

The Ed Sheeran-penned song, which peaked at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, was particularly significant because Payne has previously addressed Bieber and One Direction's friendly competition.

Payne has collaborated with Quavo, J Balvin, French Montana, and other artists during his solo career.

Liam Payne frequently discussed Justin Bieber and One Direction's cordial relationship. On November 15, 2015, both popular groups dropped new songs, leaving fans curious to watch which would lead the charts.

Bieber fanned the flames by posting a video to Snapchat in which he made a terrified look and joked, "That face you make when you come out with an album on the same day as Justin Bieber."

In 2019, the late singer discussed candidly about an alleged conflict between Bieber and the band in an interview with Mirror Online.

He said at the time, "Me and Justin had a really long chat once in his trailer. I went in to say to him: ‘It’s all good. You don’t need to do whatever'. And then we had a really long chat, and he’s a really nice kid."

Payne later defused the conflict in 2022 by telling Logan Paul how much he could relate to Bieber. During their conversation, Payne claimed to have informed Bieber that he always felt sorry for him since, whereas Payne had his bandmates to lean on for support, the pop singer had to deal with fame alone.

Payne's admiration for Bieber and his music appeared to be further demonstrated by his rendition of 'Love Yourself'.

Similarly, Bieber once went out to praise the song 'Diana' by One Direction. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the 'Peaches' singer wrote in 2013: "That new 1d song diana is well written well done boyzzzzzz (sic)," per The Mirror.
