LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The song ‘Lonely’ sung by Justin Bieber and co-written and co-produced by Benny Blanco, is once again gaining popularity, years after its initial release.

The 2020 track has seen “a 1,400% increase in pure purchases", as reported by Forbes, which also claimed while citing Luminate that it “sold 1,500 copies last tracking week".

However, a week earlier, not even 100 copies of it were sold.

Justin Bieber’s song regains popularity because of Sean 'Diddy' Combs

The reason behind the exponential increase in sales is believed to be Sean 'Diddy' Combs — the embattled rapper currently behind bars.

Though the Canadian singer has not said anything about ‘Lonely’, his fans have now connected the lyrics to his alleged controversial ties with the 54-year-old record executive when he was young, Daily Mail reports.

Fans are speculating that the track details the singer’s loneliness and the price he paid for fame when he was young.

The lyrics of ‘Lonely’ go like this: “Everybody knows my name now, But somethin' 'bout it still feels strange, Like lookin' in a mirror, tryna steady yourself, And seein' somebody else.”

“And everything is not the same now, It feels like all our lives have changed, Maybe when I'm older, it'll all calm down, But it's killin' me now,” the song states.

Years ago, he and Bieber used to hang out together when Bieber was in his teens.

Disturbing footage recently resurfaced online that showed the ‘Baby’ singer at the age of 15 standing next to the ‘Coming Home’ crooner.

In the video, Diddy can be heard saying, “He's having 48 hours with Diddy, where we hanging out and what we're doing we can't really disclose.”

“But it's definitely a 15-year-old's dream. I have been given custody of him. He's signed to Usher and I had legal guardianship of him [Bieber] but for the next 48 hours he's with me and we're gonna go full crazy,” he added.

Diddy in the video reportedly said, “What's up man, you good? Selling out arenas and everything? Starting to act different, huh? You haven't been calling me and hanging out the way we used to hang out.”

Seemingly tensed, Bieber responded: “I mean you tried to get in contact with me throughout all my... and whatnot... but you never got my number. I'm going to tell you my number.”
