LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Roger Nores, a close friend of the late Liam Payne, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Liam’s father, Geoff Payne.

The lawsuit claims Geoff falsely accused Roger of being responsible for Liam’s care during his last days in Buenos Aires before his untimely death.

Roger Nores reveals he wasn't caretaker of Liam Payne

Roger Nores’ legal action follows allegations made by Geoff in a sworn declaration to Buenos Aires police, which Roger says were not only untrue but also spread globally, damaging his reputation.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, Roger stated he “never agreed to be and was never the caretaker of Liam.”

He clarified that while they were “dear friends” and supported each other, there was no formal agreement or paid role for him to look after the singer.

Roger claims Geoff submitted a sworn declaration to authorities, saying Roger had "full responsibility for Liam's care during this last period when I was not there."

However, Roger contends he informed Geoff in an August 2024 email that he could no longer provide the same level of support. The email urged Geoff to take action regarding Liam’s condition, referencing the singer’s ongoing battles with addiction.

Roger also stated in the lawsuit that in September 2024, he urged Geoff to travel to Wellington, Florida, where Liam was living at the time, to care for his son.

“To the best of my knowledge, Geoff never came,” Roger claimed in the lawsuit.

Roger Nores denies providing Liam Payne with drugs or controlling his medications

Roger Nores addressed Geoff’s allegations directly, saying in his lawsuit, “I never provided Liam with any recreational drugs and never controlled any prescribed medications taken by Liam.”

According to the documents, Roger said Geoff had trusted Liam’s bodyguard, Bledar Vata, to be a paid caretaker. However, when Liam fired Vata, Roger claimed Geoff failed to find a replacement caretaker.

The lawsuit also noted Liam was living with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, in Florida and later at hotels in Argentina during September and October 2024.

Roger suggested that Kate had “a unique capacity, opportunity and superior knowledge of Liam’s activities and needs.” However, he refrained from directly assigning blame.

Roger Nores plans to donate lawsuit proceeds to Liam Payne’s son Bear

Roger Nores called out Geoff for withholding emails between the two, which Roger believes would clarify his position.

He accused Geoff of making false statements that were featured in the police documents, which later became part of the documentary 'Liam Payne: Who's to Blame?' TMZ interviewed Roger in the documentary.

Reflecting on Liam’s struggles, Roger stated his friend was fully independent but had grappled with addiction for years, often going in and out of treatment facilities.

Roger has pledged to donate any awarded damages from the lawsuit to Liam’s son, Bear.

Nores and two hotel workers were slapped with manslaughter charges for allegedly knowing that Payne, was extremely intoxicated and not intervening to keep him away from his room and the open balcony he fatally fell from on October 16.

Previously Rogers's friend told the New York Post, that he feels "he’s being railroaded."

“He thinks that Argentina is making an example out of him to save face. He says he’s a scapegoat," he added.

“He says that they’re mad about the bad press. And in order to change that, they had to make a high-profile arrest, and it’s him," the friend said.
