Lil Wayne hits back at Kendrick Lamar over name drop in new album, fans advise to 'pick battles wisely'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Trouble may be brewing between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne, after the 'Not Like Us' singer name-dropped the latter in his new album 'GNX'.
According to Distractify, Lamar had a lyrical rivalry with Drake earlier this year, which concluded with him emerging on top and being booked to headline Super Bowl LIX.
However, a section of rap fans were reportedly displeased with the announcement as the game is set to take place in New Orleans, the hometown of Drake's mentor Lil Wayne.
Kendrick Lamar's call out to Lil Wayne
When Kendrick Lamar's appearance at the upcoming Super Bowl was announced, Lil Wayne claimed to be upset by the news, telling his fans on Instagram, "It hurt a lot. I thought there was nothing better — that spot, on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together."
The backlash that ensued for Lamar was addressed by the rapper in his new album 'GNX', where he shared his side of the story in the song, 'Wacced Out Murals'.
In the first track of the album, the lyrics to the song read, "Used to bump Tha Carter 3 / I held my Rollie chain proud… Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down."
Lil Wayne's response to Kendrick Lamar
Taking to the social media platform X on Saturday, November 23, Lil Wayne warned Kendrick Lamar, without naming him, to let him be.
"Man wtf I do?!" he stated. "I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love."

While the tone of the message may hint at animosity between the two rappers, Lamar has heaped praises on Wayne in the past.
Appearing on 'The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show' in 2014, Lamar said, "Lil Wayne is a legend. People forget a lot of the work he’s put in and what he’s done for Hip Hop culture. It’s phenomenal."
In another interview in 2016, he shared, "Lil Wayne is the greatest. Not only because of his music but also because of the culture he put behind it. It was a big part of what he was talking about, so we always hold Lil Wayne in high regards."
Internet tells Lil Wayne to take it easy
Netizens reacting to Lil Wayne's post on X told the legend that it would be wise not to engage Kendrick Lamar in battle. The following tweets demonstrate the predominant takes.
"Chill Wayne, ion want Kenny to smoke you, u a legend," wrote a user.
"Now Wayne don’t let these folks pump you up to get your a** smoked," stated another.
