WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Lindsey Graham claimed President Joe Biden's decision to stay in the 2024 race was "very good news" for the Republican Party ahead of the November election.

The GOP lawmaker made the comment in response to a social media post by the President where he quashed all talks of his exit from the campaign after his pathetic debate last week.

During his first face-off of the 2024 election year with former President Donald Trump on June 27, the 81-year-old showed signs of cognitive decline, struggling to articulate sentences after beginning the debate with a raspy voice.

The dismal display led to chaos within the Democratic Party, with many coming forward demanding to replace the incumbent with a younger politician.

Vice President Kamala Harris, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and California Governor Gavin Newsom were among those speculated as possible replacements; however, they dismissed the rumors, reaffirming their unwavering support for Biden's re-election bid.

Lindsey Graham touts Joe Biden staying in the race as 'good news' for GOP

"From a political point of view President Biden's commitment to stay in the race no matter what is very good news, not only for President Trump but for the entire down-ballot Republican team," the Senator from South Carolina wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, July 5.

This was in response to Biden's post on the platform that read, "I'm the sitting President of the United States. I'm the nominee of the Democratic party. I'm staying in the race."

Despite calls from a group of Democratic elected officials urging him to step down and threats from wealthy donors to withhold support, Biden remained defiant.

During a campaign speech in Madison, Wisconsin, on July 5, he reaffirmed his decision to stay in the race for the Democratic ticket, declaring, "I'm running and I'm going to win again."

Last week, Graham dodged questions about the false claims Trump made during the debate and instead criticized Biden, labeling him a "failed president."

Internet split over Lindsey Graham's claim that Biden's re-election bid will benefit GOP

Netizens expressed mixed opinions as Lindsey Graham saw Joe Biden's decision not to suspend the campaign as beneficial for the entire GOP ballot.

"Only time will tell," a user said. While another remarked, "When you've got Lindsey Graham applauding your decision to stay in the race, it's time to withdraw."

"This may be one of the only times in history that Graham has ever been right," added a user.

Whereas a response read, "Yeah, I don’t think so especially with more & more Americans learning about Project 2025 & the draconian policies Trump & his radical MAGA party want to implement in the 1st 180 days of a Trump administration. The majority of Americans do not want our democracy to end!"

"Don’t say the quiet part out loud," an individual said. On the other hand, someone else opined, "Note that Lindsey Graham can’t even bring himself to explain that Democracy and the people of the US could suffer. But party over all else, Lindsey!"

"Hope so Lindsey. Biden needs to be retired now. He can and will do a lot of harm before the election!" Another remark read. Meanwhile, a user claimed, "You wouldn’t be saying that if it was true!!! You aren’t fooling anyone!!!"
