LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Many were quite sure that Demi Moore would bag the Best Actress award for ‘The Substance’ at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, after her wins at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

However, the award ultimately went to Mikey Madison for her work in the 2024 movie ‘Anora’, leaving several fans as well as the 62-year-old actress disheartened.

Lip reader decodes Demi Moore's reaction to losing Best Actress Oscar



 

Now, a lip reader has revealed what Demi Moore said after the 25-year-old was announced as the winner of the Best Actress award at the 2025 Oscars.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail, “Demi says ‘nice’ but she isn't smiling when she says it. Her body is almost nodding like she had to force herself to say it.”



 

Alongside the ‘Indecent Proposal’ actress and Madison, other actresses who were nominated in the category were Fernanda Torres, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Cynthia Erivo for ‘I'm Still Here’, ‘Emilia Perez’, and ‘Wicked’, respectively. 

Fans feel 'sad' for Demi Moore after her loss to Mikey Madison

Though some online users celebrated the ‘Scream’ actress’ win, many of Demi Moore’s fans shared their disappointment over her loss at the Oscars 2025.

“Truly happy for Mikey Madison but Demi Moore was ROBBED. #Oscars,” an X user tweeted.



 

Another commented, “Demi Moore losing to Mikey Madison is basically the plot of the Substance.”



 

One person declared, “I am so happy for mikey madison but at the same time i am so sad for demi moore #oscars.”



 

“Mikey madison was great and all but F*** demi moore was so robbed, it’s such a shame,” a fan remarked.



 

“Anora is the weakest film of all its competitors. Mikey Madison gave a good performance, but not enough to beat Fernanda Torres and Demi Moore for best performance! It seems that the Oscars are a matter of marketing, they never reward the best performance,” another shared.

Meanwhile, while accepting the honor at the Oscars, Mikey Madison said, “I also just want to, again, recognize and honor the sex worker community. I will. Yes. I will continue to support and be an ally."

"All of the incredible people, the women that I've had the privilege of meeting from that community, have been one of the highlights of this incredible experience," she stated.

The ‘Better Things’ actress also mentioned her fellow nominees as she added, “I also just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I'm honored to be recognized alongside all of you.”
