WASHINGTON, DC: Former Republican Rep Liz Cheney hailed Vice President Kamala Harris' address accepting her nomination at last month's Democratic National Convention, calling it "a speech that Ronald Reagan could have given."

Appearing on ABC News' 'This Week' on Sunday, September 8, the ex-Wyoming Republican spoke in defence of her decision to vote against former President Donald Trump in November while hailing his Democratic rival.

"If you look at Vice President Harris' speech, for example, at the Democratic Convention, it is a speech that Ronald Reagan could have given," Cheney said, citing the GOP icon. "It’s a speech that George Bush could have given," she added as per the New York Post.

Cheney, who last week announced her father and former Vice President Dick Cheney would also vote for Harris in November, urged to vote for the Democratic presidential nominee, claiming Trump was "depraved" and a threat to the nation, according to The Daily Beast.

"The Republicans have nominated somebody who, you know, is depraved," the former lawmaker, an open critic of the MAGA leader, said to host Jonathan Karl.

"Somebody who shows us every day that, you know, he has tendencies, and he’s willing to embrace things that are fundamentally a danger to this nation and to our Constitution."

Cheney, who would cast her first vote for a Democrat in November, also called for Republicans who decided to write an alternative candidate's name instead of Trump on the ballot to vote for Harris.

"That's not enough," the once high-profile Republican said. "It's important to actually cast a vote for Vice President Harris."

Liz Cheney believes Kamala Harris has changed her position on hardline progressive issues

Cheney, a professor at the University of Virginia Center for Politics, earlier criticized the vice president before her entry into the 2024 race.

In a 2020 post on X (formerly Twitter), she called Harris "a radical liberal" who "supports dangerous policies that would devastate millions of Americans."

Nevertheless, in the latest ABC News interview, she claimed the Democratic candidate has shifted from certain progressive policies, citing what she has learned as vice president. "Listen to her talk about her vision for this country, her vision for the future," Cheney pointed out.

"When it comes to fundamental alliances, when it comes to the importance of NATO, for example, and how important it is for the United States to lead in the world, we've seen a sea change. We now have a Republican Party that is embracing isolationism, that is embracing Putin," the ex-congresswoman added.

Cheney noted that Harris' stance on Medicare, the fracking ban, the Green New Deal, and the ban on plastic straws have also softened.

She further called for congressional Republicans to denounce Trump, asserting he was not standing for anything that former President Reagandid, emphasizing the danger the real estate mogul presents and what he did to stay in power.

Cheney was alienated by the Republican Party for condemning the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and for being part of the House committee formed to investigate the attack. She and Rep Adam Kinzinger were the only GOP members in the since-defunded committee.

Internet slams Liz Cheney for praising Kamala Harris' speech as something 'Ronald Reagan could have given'

Netizens blasted Cheney for hailing Harris' nomination acceptance speech at the DNC as Reaganesque. Some claimed that the ex-lawmaker was trying to make herself relevant again by touting for the Democratic candidate.

"She’s either looking for a cabinet position with Kamala or has gone insane," a user said.

"The dishonesty of this is appalling. She's allowed to prefer one candidate over another for whatever reason she chooses as a priority. But, when we start hearing lies like this she is no longer a political opponent but something worse and dark," another added.

"You are an embarrassment to true conservatives..." a third user wrote.

"She’s clearly demented or drunk. There is no other explanation," read a fourth response.

"This is not a policy election?! C’mon Liz—your TDS has melted what few brain cells you had left," an individual opined.

"She's trying to make herself relevant, but she's not, except to the main stream media because she furthers their narrative," someone else remarked.

"We don’t care about Liz Cheney Her opinion means nothing to us. She’s has Trump Derangement Syndrome," read one remark.

"Tell me you know nothing about Ronald Reagan without saying you know nothing about Ronald Reagan. Liz just keeps on blowing up her credibility," another user chimed in.
