On Sunday, August 25, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer took to her Instagram to share a short clip accompanied with the announcement, per The Sun.

Lizzo is taking a ‘gap year’

The 36-year-old songstress shared a short clip of her standing in the rain in a black bathing suit highlighting her weight transformation.

She wrote in the caption, "I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace.”

The video’s caption is particularly poignant. For the last one year, the singer - born Melissa Viviane Jefferson - has faced intense public scrutiny after being accused by her back up dancers of bullying.

Nevertheless, Lizzo’s physical transformation in her new video garnered immense applause from her fans who filled the comment section with praises.

After the video was shared, it garnered over 538k likes and over 9000 comments from smitten fans.

The ‘Truth Hurts’ singer has been hinting at her physical transformation in some of her recent posts.

She has been sharing some of her workout videos on her Instagram feed including some videos of cardio exercises.

Her announcement of taking a “gap year,” also came after her outburst in March when she claimed that she was tired of public criticism.

Per The Sun, she wrote, "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

"All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it ... But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it,” wrote the songstress.

The Grammy-winning star retorted back at her critics, saying, "I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views.”

"Being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look…,.” wrote the ‘Boys’ singer and added, "My character being picked apart by people who don't know me and disrespecting my name."

She concluded by saying, "I didn't sign up for this sh*t. I QUIT!"

Later, after a huge public uproar, she, however, clarified in another public statement that by “I quit,” she meant to say that she was willing to quit all negativity, per ABC News.

She said, "I wanna make this video because I just need to clarify. When I say 'I quit,' I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention," before adding, "What I'm not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people."

She continued, "'Cause I know I'm not alone. In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.”

"If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I've done even more than I could have hoped for,” added the singer.

"With that being said, I'm gonna keep moving forward, I'm gonna keep being me," she added before noting, "Again, I just want to say thank you. The love that I've received ... means more than you know."
